Backhoe Kubota B26 Manual Thumb for BT820

I have attached a summary PDF file of the manual thumb addition I did for my Kubota B26 which has the BT820 backhoe. Kubota does not offer a manual thumb for this backhoe and I could not justify...

Been great tractor as it gets used potholing utilities and misc use on the job sites and farm it will do the job of 2 labors and don't rack up many hrs but makes us lots of money. Easy to transport and more than makes its own payment.

Pros: Like a swiss army knife
Cons: Some times it don't know its not a full size machine

Homestead B26
Model Year: 2008

I upgraded from a solid little BX22 that went to a good home (tree nursery) in Texas. Needed more muscle around the homestead. Built a pallet fork QA system I used to move around 300lbs sheets of 1/4" steel plate.

Pros: Kubota dependability; more muscle than advertised; compact enought to maneuver thru tight spaces
Cons: don't have any yet

Great machine
Model Year: 2007

I use my B-26 to do everything from pushing snow, with a plow, to utility excavation, grading, and landscaping, it's done almost everything I've asked it to do.

Pros: Compact, powerful
Cons: light weight, low lifting capacity

B26 small yet powerfull
Model Year: 2008

B26 overall great small tractor, the size seems small but it can handle a 5ft tiller, and can dig 8ft. I only wish could operate the driving from the backhoe position.

Pros: Power
Cons: price

If the loader was removable and it had a mid PTO, it would be the perfect tractor. I guess you can't have everything. Other then that, it is a very nice machine, built to last, with plenty of power for its size.

Pros: Size, power and quality.
Cons: Loader not removable.

B26 Kubota
Kubota B26 - Used Purchase
Model Year: 2007

I have owned the machine for less than a year but the make/model came highly recommended. As a new owner with no formal TLB training was easy to learn on. Once I get more practice and hours my review might look different. When buying used equipment the machine history is always a concern but I think I made a good choice. a few minor problems and at this time I don't know how typical they are. I have a feeling that the maintenance was not 100%. A missing turn light lens, fuse cover missing, blown fuse, a couple of broken pin bolts and many grease fittings not taking grease. Most are fixed now.

Pros: Affordable but strong enough to work hard.
Cons: Broken plastic around the shift levers.

B 26: Best Investment for Landscapers
Model Year: 2008

My B 26 has a 4 in 1 bucket, quick attach backhoe. I can do more work with less labor and do it better than with a skid steer. I can run my tractor for several days on a minimum of fuel, get into tight job-sites yet do commercial work with this tractor. I have dug graves, pools, footings, graded yards bushogged fields, pushed snow, loaded debris, dirt, rock, sand into my F 750 dump truck, spread same material, graded parking lots, dug drainage ditches, dug up stumps and planted trees. I paid 33k for this tractor, charge $75 per hr. to run it and it's now paid for. Kubota has been great with any issues I've had and I have made a lot of money with this tractor. That's why I bought 2 more (L 440, grand L 4240).

Pros: Commercial grade tractor in every way.
Cons: Wish it had a little more power and lift capacity.

Kubota B26 - A Great All Around Machine
Model Year: 2007

So far I love this machine! It is small enough to get in most places, yet powerful enough to do most everything I need to do. I do have a Kubota L3830 to do the land plowing, planting, etc. With its increased loader capacity, quick change front bucket, canopy, quick change backhoe bucket, and hydraulic thumb that I added it has a lot of extra features. The hydraulics are smooth. The mechanical spill prevention on the front bucket is a nice feature. The only con I can think of is that it can be tipsy with out the backhoe or some other heavy weight on the back, but I guess you would have to give up some of the compactness to get more stability and it is not near as much of a problem with the backhoe on it. I gave it a 4 on value because it is not cheap. I paid $26,500 with 43 hours on it and a year old in 2008. That was with the hydraulic thumb, quick change backhoe bucket, and an extra 12" bucket.

Pros: Great power and capacities for a compact/great on fuel.
Cons: Can be tipsy without backhoe on it.

Mighty Mouse
Model Year: 2007

Perfect machine for my requirements. Small and light enough to transport on my 12' 7000lb GVW TA utility trailer but lots of power. I use it construction and landscaping on a raw land acreage on Arrow Lake in BC. Thumb on BH is very useful for picking up and setting boulders and moving logs. Occasionally I have wished for a heavier tractor with a longer BH reach but with patience the hole gets dug or the log gets moved. Very pleased with the $30,000 invested for this used (250hr) machine.

Pros: Small and light but lots of lifting and digging capability.
Cons: I could have used more power and traction sometimes.

Kubota B26 TLB
Model Year: 2005

Bought the unit in '05 as a retirement toy. Told the wife it was her anniversary present. My mistake. Best operator I ever saw. She hauls firewood, does landscaping projects, installed a greywater septic system, etc. I'm the guy down in the hole with a shovel. Great unit, good on fuel, easy to operate. Other than routine maintenance, I've replaced a coupla hydraulic lines. Hydraulic fittings are standard stuff, available from NAPA. Just wish I got to run it more.

Pros: Nicely laid out controls.
Cons: Could use a bit more lift capy. forward.
