Thanks for your web site and it has already given me a lot of information about the cylinders on the Case. It reads easy and is easy to follow.

Pros: Easy to use.
Cons: None so far.

1966 Case 580 First Series
Model Year: 1966

I just traded for a Case 580 that was sitting in the weeds. It runs, clutch is stuck, everything leaks, needs tires and the front end needs rebuilt. But it runs. I can still get parts which is good. I'll update when I can use it.

Pros: Parts availability.
Cons: Needs everything.

Good All-Around Machine
Model Year: 1976

I bought my 580B in 1992 for about $5k total investment. I've put about 1k hours on it doing everything from digging foundations to planting trees, and it's been extremely reliable. I got a chance to use a late model Cat 426 several years ago, and while the Cat certainly has a nice, quiet cab, I thought my 580 had just as much digging power. It's a good solid machine.

Pros: Digging power, reliability.
Cons: Noisy cab, no AC.

Ron's Backhoe
Model Year: 1977

This tractor has been good to me. It's old (probably an antique). I use it to load my sawmill and other chores around the property, like plowing snow. It's about worn out though. Right now I'm replacing the head gasket and fixing the throttle linkage. It needs most of the bushings replaced and it has no brakes. So I think I'll make use of this forum because I'm a woodworker not a mechanic, and will need all the help I can get.

Pros: Still runs.
Cons: Not 4WD, old, no cab.

The 580 is a useful reliable robust machine that has done a lot of earth moving jobs for me. Not as strong as the JCB for example but still very useful and worth her while.

Pros: Robust.
Cons: 2 wheel drive only.

My 79 Case Mine is the 580c There Was No Pick Above
Model Year: 0

I have owned and operated 3 580C backhoe loaders. A very reliable machine. Has its limits when digging as to dumping products. The excavators that can turn around definitely has an advantage. But the Case has the advantage of loading hauling in much less time.

Pros: Very dependable, can move on the road. load trucks.
Cons: Turning radius on backhoe, 2 wheel drive.

Case 580 B Backhoe Loader
Model Year: 1974

I have owned this backhoe for several years and can honestly say it's been one of best buys for the buck that I ever spent. I have used it around the farm here and its never disappointed me.

Pros: Big enough to do the average job around the farm.
Cons: Little light in the front end with backhoe attachment on it.
