Troy-Bilt Wide Cut Mower (Legacy 34041)
Model Year: 1992
This is an old-school Troy-Bilt, manufactured before MTD acquired the company. It's been a rugged, versatile machine that has proved easily serviceable by a reasonably handy homeowner. I got tired of replacing batteries for the electric start and just use the recoil starter---always fires on the first or second pull. Quality of cut is just okay, but that may be partly my fault as I overwhelm the mulching function by letting the grass grow too long. I've dinged up the deck, and the chassis needed welding after it took a 40-inch drop onto concrete, but there's no rust after 22 years.
Pros: Build quality, maneuverability.
Cons: Quality of cut, lesser quality of newer models.
