Excellent Value
Model Year: 2011
The TYM 503 tractor has proven itself in mowing, blading, forklift and front loader operation. The industrial tires, the skid steer disconnect, the 16x16 shuttle transmission, large fuel tank, 2 remote hydraulics, Cat/Perkins engine make for a great multi-use package. Easy cold starting, ample power and surprising fuel economy were icing on the cake. The base price of this scratch/dent leftover special deal was well under 19K, including a forklift accessory and engine heater. Small extras include very supportive suspension seat, large rearview mirrors, tilt wheel, great 3 pt linkage design and good control ergonomics. There are some shortcomings that must be considered. The FEL valve return hydraulic hose is placed too close to the right brake linkage, and has some wear showing. The FEL valve has had some control issues and both the valve, and the hose will be replaced under warranty at the 50 break-in lube service. This tractor doesn't seem to have as much ground clearance with the loader mount framework as others like Massey Ferguson and Kubota. But, the FEL framework seems much beefier than others; which I like. Also, the brake linkage seems to be a bit more in the open than other brands, but could mean that it is easier to service. Following break-in service, I will augment this review as I learn more about the 503's capabilities and limitations. So far, I am quite pleased with the investment.
Pros: Many features standard, easy cold starts, good fuel economy, well designed FEL with skidsteer attachment linkage, great visibility and maneuverability.
Cons: Vulnerable linkage under tractor would limit extreme wooded and rocky terrain. Lower ground clearance than other brands. FEL valve problems (to be covered under warranty).
