Buy A TYM If You Like Mechanics And Welding!
Model Year: 0
When I purchased a TYM model T234 HST(25 horsepower) with loader and backhoe, I thought I would be able to develop a three acre plot of land in the western North Carolina mountains. This bit of paradise was to be my retirement home and after much research I thought that this tractor was exactly what I needed. Over the course of the first three years, 2 under warranty, however, it proved to be a nightmare. The backhoe mounts tore off the tractor with 250 hours on it, right after the end of the warranty period. I fixed that by designing a bracket that restrained the backhoe utilizing the hitch. The front end loader broke both of the main attachment arms, in a catastrophic event that allowed the entire loader to crash lopsidedly to the ground, 150 hours on them. Replaced under warranty, the new attachment arms started to break again just after the warranty ran out, so I re-welded them and provided some much needed bar support. Since then, I have put 300 more hours with no change, and no damage. The loader is good. However, the backhoe, shortly after the attachment issue, had one after another (of the bushings that allows the main beams of the backhoe to pivot and extend and contract) just crack off. I have had to weld the bushings back on the beams and add more metal. The main pivot bearing that allows the backhoe to swivel actually started to break off and would have collapsed if I hadn't welded it back on and added additional steel to it. Another issue, the bolts that hold it together keep backing out, which threatens to have the machine just fall apart. I have had to remove all the bolts and locktight them. The company response is a joke. My dealer was only in business a year and then quit the tractor business. Other TYM dealers have had problems with the support from TYM and have actually quit representing TYM because of it. After the 2 year period was up, They were unwilling to even talk to me, which in my view is a poor response when their equipment is so poorly designed that it poses a risk to the operator. My estimate is that I spend an hour repairing the machine for 2 hours of use.
Pros: Cheap price
Cons: Broke all the time
