Calling all 2520 owners

My dealer replaced my arms last week at no charge. They first required that I bring the tractor to them and per the current service bulletin, they checked that the wheels were set to wide (they werent) and that the draft arms were in the correct holes (they were) etc.

When I dropped off my tractor, I also took my Landpride box blade. This is the largest implement I have and rubs the most. After setting the tires to wide, there was still rub when the 3pt was all the way up. At that point there was no argument from the dealer. They ordered the arms which came in within two days and had them on my tractor shortly after that. When I picked it up the amount on the work order was $600+. The cost to me was $0.

It appears to me that there isnt going to be a general replacement of the arms for everyone, no questions asked. I think the policy is going to be that you will have to prove that your particular tractor is having the problem with the implements you use and that even with the tires to wide etc, you are still having tire rub. Then Deere may replace the arms.

PS - the new arms certainly fix the problem. I now have no rub on any of my implements.

It seems that Deere doesn't want to give out the new style links without putting the customer through a bunch of BS. This is what I emailed my dealer and when I went to pickup my tractor it had the new arms on it. I don't know if this helped in getting the new style arms but I do know it's hard to argue with numbers.

JD 2520 - 3 Point Hitch measurements

Narrow to Wide setting adds 2 3/8 or 60mm overall.

Rockshaft pos| Dist from Ground to cl of hole | Max inside distance between arms

....1.............|....9 3/4..............................|....33 3/8
....4.............|....15 3/4.............................|....32 1/2
....6.............|....20 3/4.............................|....30 3/4
....8.............|....25 3/8.............................|....29 5/8
....9.............|....28 1/4.............................|....28 1/2

Draft link is 1.4 thick @ end +
.5 hole for Lynch pin +
.5 material thickness for end of attaching pin.
= 2.4 minimum length for attaching pin

ASAE, ISO 730-1:1994 Standards for Category 1 3PH
Maximum distance between pins for Category 1 is 26.9

Adding these two gives you the minimum distance between the inside arms
26.9 + 2.4 = 29.3

Therefore, the 2520 w/ tires set wide is considered a limited category 1 by ASAE Standards.
I am going by the definition of "limited cat 1" = not meeting the cat 1 spec of 16.9" for the full range of motion.

My opinion is that this is why some have problems and some don't. If you are hooking up mowers, small back blades and rakes, you tend to hookup lower where the arms will open wider and you will never know. When you hook up a plow you need the arms higher and during transporting it may be all the way up and this is when you will notice. The other time you may notice is if you load your tractor with implement onto a trailer. The implement will need to be all the way up as to not drag when going up the ramps.

Hiya,

Well, they came in and they are on! The calls worked! My faith in the big green is restored. :)

Here's the pictures, there is 3" between tire and arm when all the way down. (I didn't measure it all the way up but there has to be more than before) I tried to take a picture with a meter stick but the batteries died as I pressed the button, sorry metric system guys and gals. ;)

Has anyone checked the overall length of the replacement arms? It may be an optical delusion but they look longer. I'm wondering if PTO shafts are long enough to have proper slide engagement at full extension.

Tom

It sounds like most of you are getting this fixed. I don't have mine yet, my dealer has them on order but I haven't heard from him yet. Not unusual, when the owner orders anything for me I usually have to calling him before he calls me. If his parts department orders it I get a call when it's in. I'll call next week.

Mine are in.. just need to find the time to go get 'em.

Had my 2520 in for 50 hour service and the arms came in so the dealer is replacing them for me.
I decided to have the tires foamed after multiple flats on the front including running a pencil sized stick through the left front sidewall. Dealer said it would void the warrenty because of the increased load on the drive train. But since I only had 2 months left and he had just done a top to bottom inspection of my machine I decided to go for it.

Why in the world would foam in the tires void a warranty? Can't be a weight issue is it?

Just heard today that mine finally are in and I just need to find time to go have them installed. I'm one step closer and I hope I don't run into any problems. The dealer has not asked me to provide any proof that I have a problem. Truth is that depending upon what you call a problem he could give me an argument. With my JD back blade and rotary cutter installed I get about 1/4 inch clearance on each side. If you could keep the sway adjusted tight it would theoretically work but they don't stay that tight and I'll never get chains on. So I'm still not counting this done until they are on my machine and I got her back home.

Gordnovo, did you get yours without a hitch (pardon the pun)?

When my dealer had my tractor for other problems I asked about the draft arms. They measured several different implements that were cat 1. He determined that they would not fit with the existing arms and ordered replacements. It was covered under warranty :D. The replacement arms are on the tractor but I have not attached anything to it yet.

Still have the deck issue to deal with :mad::mad:
