Small MoCo's??

sounds like a good place to be making haylage if the windows of opportunity are as tight as you say. its sort of the same reason why a lot is made in my district, being a fairly high rainfall area (yes there are a few in Australia, its not all red desert, just most of it)

John Deere makes very good equipment... and they never "give 'em" away - either! $20K for the MoCo and need 80hp-100hp Ag tractor; with baler, and tedder and rake.

Likely burn a big hole in a $100K bill for newer model JD equipment...

I can see an old model Farmhand accumulator and bale grapple and an old, $5K 2WD Ag horse with a $5K baler, tedder, rake combo in my future!!

Well, that's what I was getting at in one of my earlier post. The suggestions were starting to go all over the place but that was because your only qualification was "small moco". Price range, 3pt vs. pull type, brand, hp req., etc. would help narrow it down quite a bit.

The maneuverability of the mo-co is almost all in the tractor driving it.

Depending on how you define maneuverability. I assume you are talking about around the field, however, small fields fields, narrow roads, gates, etc. should all be considered when making a decision. It very well could be the difference between why one buys one type over the next. That is still considered maneurability.

I should add a bit more to that, in a trailed type unit, the turning radius and ability to work in small fields is limited by the tractor and having a the tongue set for proper tight angle pto operation.

A 2wd tractor with a short wheelbase is helpful. If you're worried about actual size for getting through gates, thats a different thing.

Again, like I said, it goes back to the original post he never said what exactly he was looking for and why, other than "small moco". I'm looking for a small moco too but my concerns are for transportation around small roads, gates and possibly having to haul it. Far different concerns than how I go about running it the field . . .

The single exception would the the Kuhn trailed w/ the gyro hitch. I believe thats good to > 90deg turns.

Doesn't JD have hitch now that is also good to > 90deg turns too? I thought I saw it in the 600 and 800 series brochure. Not positive though. I do think it is only applicable to the center pivot units though.

Dont know about that. I have their hay tools blurb but it doesnt mention any spc hitch.

Those gyro hitches would be nice for getting tight corners cut. I have a hard time getting the backswath on many of my fields.
