I'll have to check out this square line. We tried some fancy star shaped trimmer line and it's horrible. With the star shape we found the thin edges tend to melt together keeping the head from feeding.

i had some star stuff i used for years, i thought it was ok until i used this stuff......

...don't know if it's the same star brand but this was the stuff i had to tap 6-10 times (or more) for the same job that didn't tap once......concrete, rocks, easy grass, foundation, edging concrete.......

i did try to see what actually would break it......woody growth of about 3 years will make you tap the head but it still did a heck of a job.....

I just bought a roll off of ebay. I have a ryobi trimmer with the bump head that don't feed worth a carp. I may have to by one a those fixed length trimmer heads to fit my ryobi and then cut this gator line into 8" pieces.

Anybody changed from bump string head to fixed length head on one of these box store ryobi interchangable fixture type trimmers?

I've been using Oregon Magnum Gatorline round (.095) that I bought from a local small engine dealer last spring and I've been extremely pleased with it in my Shindaiwa trimmer. I bought a half lb donut and use it weekly to trim around my garden, building, house, trees, and to edge along my driveway and sidewalk. I spend about 30 minutes a wk, March thru November, trimming and so far have only used a little over half in nearly 2 seasons. It's good stuff with an aramid core. Wears like iron and I haven't had it break yet.

While we're on the topic of string trimmers, is there such a thing as a string trimmer for a tractor? I have many acres of uneven tall grass with small rocks (6" or so) at the surface that I'd like to mow. I'm wary of breaking the blades on a nice new mower. If a string trimmer doesn't exist, what are the merits of different mowers for rough ground? The Kubota mid-mount mower looks really convenient, but my dealer says for rough ground to get a Gearmore 3-point mower.

SimS; Many thanks for the link. The Kosch string trimmer product looks interesting, although not as productive as a mower in terms of the area covered. I also couldn't find a price on their site or on further Google search? Does anyone have one of these? How does it compare in price, utility, and application to rough ground as opposed to a rough cut mower?
