Mulch kit question...

Hi guys Looks like I'm going to make a deal tomorrow on a 2305, FEL, 54c (or maybe 62c), independent lift, iMatch, BB, snow blower and possibly a rake. I'm trading in the X540/54c. Can't wait!

I have a question on the mulch kit for the deck that I hope doesn't sound dumb... Our grass has some pretty wet areas and after an afternoon of mowing there is quite a bit of moisture buildup under X540 deck. If I get the mulch kit for the 2305, do you think moisture trapped between the deck and the plastic inserts will be a corrosion issue? I assume it will never dry out until I take it apart at the end of the summer. If there is a bit of rust I can live with that but I wouldn't want the deck rotting out prematurely. What do you think?

Also, do you think wet grass with the mulch kit will be a clogging problem?

Are you sure it is plastic? The one I had for my 2210 62C was metal if I remember right.

I doubt you will want to keep that mulch kit on there all the time.

I saw one for the 54c deck for my x540 which is plastic. I believe the decks are the same (except or the connection to the tractor). I assmue it's plastic for the 54c on the 2305 as well.

OK - you have exceeded my knowledge. You might consider a different kind of blade instead of using a mulch kit.

Yes, it's plastic. I have the mulch kit on the 62C deck and leave it on all summer. When I dropped the deck off the tractor last fall, I removed the mulch kit and cleaned under it. No rust at all. Paint was still fresh looking since it is very well protected. I have had very good luck with mowing with the mulch kit installed all summer long. I try to keep the grass down by mowing reasonably often and have my mower set at the highest position so as to help the grass to retain moisture and minimize weeds. However, I also use the tractor to mow waterways about four times per year. The grass gets pretty high and it does leave some windrows, but it doesn't look bad and it still looks better than when a bush hog is used.

Congrats on your new tractor. You will love it. Get the 62C deck. Better turning circle and easier to mow up close. I don't have the independent lift and have never seen the need for it.
