I got spunky and changed the oil in my new to me Ford diesel truck. 4 gallons of oil and then cut in diesel to make the 25% mix and then.... get this.... the wife painted a cedar board fence with it. She made it about 75 feet down the 200 foot long fence before running out. It turned out really nice. I'll need to drive 5000 miles before I can generate some more stain though and she can finish the fence.

You could visit the local JiffyLube and see if they have some good diesel engine oil. I don't know if they pay to get rid of it or get paid for it. Either way, I'll bet it's cheaper than paint.

They get paid for it. I have a friend, another pilot, who owns a few Jiffy Lube franchises. I ask him if they heated with the waste oil. He said they used to do that but the furnaces need tons of maintenance and now he gets a $1 a gallon for used oil. He just sells it and pays for natural gas like the rest of us to heat.

That $1 per gallon was back in May or June, it has probably went up.

I was just in the WA area (Federal Way -- south of the airport) and I thought that if you spill a drop of used oil on the ground the green police would frog march you off the deepest darkest dungeon. It's nice to hear that some people in the state understand that oil bound up in wood is there for the duration!

By the way, i about had a fit when I heard that by statute hydroelectric power is not a renewable resource in WA.

Iplayfarmer For traction on painted surfaces HD, Lowes and probably most paint stores sell a grit additive to be added to the paint. Years ago I glossy painted my utility trailer deck and it was very slippery. I repainted with the grit and the problem was gone.

So how do you paint it? Can it go through a gun or do you have to roll it on?

I used a paint brush. I expect there's instructions on the can regarding alternate methods.

I grew up in WA, so I don't know anything different than to have the inner city majority decide what our laws should be. When you get outside of the cities, the folks are good. Some of us even have, gasp, burn barrels.

Whew, you scared me, I thought of all kinds of things that may be after the "gasp". Like Common sense, guns, more brains than a turnip, oh the list goes on.... But it didn't include burn barrels! Even though I have one!

Slightly off topic, I just purchased a new enclosed utility trailer. Floor is 3/4" plywood, I was thinking of painting the floor, and a little up the walls with some sort of epoxy paint, with something slip resistant in it. The though being that when it gets full of dirt and grass... I could just hose it out to clean it up. Can't do that very well with a bare plywood floor. Has anybody found anything that works well that they could recommend in this sort of a situation? Or just see what Lowes/Home Cheapo have to offer.
