Ok which side of the fence is he putting the poles? Between the road and the fence of between the fence and the pasture?

My neighbor and share a mail box post and it was hit a couple of times since I've been out here. Like you they always just seemed to drive off. I wanted to drill hole and put some re-bar in the post. Figured if they hit it again it would pretty much destroy a radiator. He talked me out of it. But since then it hasn't been hit.

Wedge, the poles are going to be the fence posts. They will just be very close together in this vulnerable spot, probably 6' apart.

We finally got the telephone pole posts installed this weekend. They aren't in a very staight line, but my neighbor dug the post holes and I didn't want to suggest he redo any of them. The first picture is coming down the hill and the view of the corner. The next photo shows the poles and the next two photos are closer. Each pole is set 5' into the ground. The power pole has never been hit, nor its guy wires. One car went to the left of the pole and all the others to the right. My neighbor hopes the poles will send a message to the folks who have kept his fence destroyed. Now he may be able to put some animals into his pasture.

Hi Jim, been following this for a period of time and really feel for the situation. Just wondering what the road setback is? (right of way) Around here it is different for all of the old roads and many are not stated, but in most cases the smaller country roads are 2 rod or 3 rod right of ways.

I happen to be on one of the roads that was never marked, way too old, but when I put up a stone wall very close to the road way it took about two days and I got a letter telling me to remove the stone wall as it wasn't safe for passage.

I did not agree, but removed the wall.

Just curious if you guys checked on this before putting in the post.

I would suggest that he cut them off at fence post height to make them look like they really are fence posts.

Yes, Wayne, Mike built his fence 1' inside the line. It's hard to see in the pictures, but the power pole is also inside the line and it is 1' in front of these posts. The road was originally over 8' away from the fence. Mike used to make two passes with his 5' mower between the road and his fence. However, traffic and successive road resurfacing has caused the road to creep toward his fence. I joked with Mike that he needs a retaining wall instead of a fence.

Chris: Mike's chainsaw was as dull as a date with Rosie O'Donnell. He is going to sharpen the chain and then come back to even up the posts. I could have loaned him my Stihl, but I just sharpened the blade and didn't want to see it used to cut creosote posts. I think he may leave the posts higher than normal fence posts and put reflectors on them. After all, the object is to keep people from hitting the posts and tearing down his fence. I suggested he get a banner printed that says, "Here's your sign!" and put it onto the posts up high.:D
