The inside of the drive clutch is faily beefy. But it has some very lose tolerances and is for sure the root of the slight rattle. The is not much you can do about it withouot effecting the performance of the clutch. I dry lubed it, since you do not want anything that will attract dust in your cluch if used in dirt. I think that took care of 60% of the noise.

In the furture, I will only dry lube the driven clutch since you do not have to take anything apart to do that. other than peace of mind, it was not worth the time to take apart the driven clutch. Although its not hard.

and beside that you have a xuv and i have a hpx they do have diferent clutchs so if i was to know everything about the hpx cluch it wouldn't help you out much. if it's like the hpx you can remove the clutch cover and that will let you see the inner workings meaning springs and stuff . for me to install my clutch enclosure i had to remove that and discard it and install a fan blade there so now my clutch is wide open . while i had the clutch enclosre off i took some gun sleaner"blast off" and i sprayed the clutch down and then i took a can of white spray lithium grease and put a tiny bit on each roller thing. i call them roller things cause i really don't know the names to all the parts.there are some little wafer like plastic shims on them i put a small shot of sgrease in there too . make sure you don't over grease it because the grease can and will fly off and get on the belt and you really don't want that. if there is anything else i can help you with about cleaning it let me kow but as for as a complete disessable i never said i completely disasebled it i don't know where you got that at. but like i said if you need help i'll help out as much as i can.

I assumed you were talking about the drive clutch in the prior pictures. you would have to "take it down" to lube it.

no you don't have to take it down to lube it . the lithium grease comes in a aresol can with a red tube like wd-40 you can reach every part you need to reach without taking it down. now the xuv clutch might be diferent but the hpx clutch is easy to clean and lube without disasembly.. i'm talking about the clutch part that mounts to the outside the motor that the belts goes around i think they call it the primary clutch. there is a little cover .now i will tell you a secret to get the cover off the instaed of buying a speacial john deere tool just go buy a longer xuv lug nut because the john deere guy looked it up for me and the threads are the same so they ordered me one for a tractor or something with the same threads but longer. i think that was to get the clutch off the shaft. if you don't have that you ain't gonna get that clutch off. i have to go to town for a bit but i'll dig around in my old pictucrs and see if i have some old pictures of when i done my clutch enclosure . i know i should have some of the clutch taken off.

although don't you have a deisel?? your clutch will be alot diferent than mine so you might have to take it apart to clean it. i know after you remove tha cover off the clutch on the gas hpx the clutch is wide open all you have to do is spray it down i removed it to install the clucth enclosure behind it .if i wouldn't have had to put the enclosure bedind it i could have cleaned it and lubed it in place.

Yes, I have a diesel. But I get confused reading about the cover and enclosure and wonder if we are talking about the same parts. There is a cover over the driven clutch held on with 4 bolts. To get to them, I have to remove a plastic cover that gueards the belt from mud. I don't get why you need a lug nut. Take a look at the pic in this thread and let me know if that looks like what we are talking about. If so, you might be on to something....

yes there is 4 little bolts that holds the cover on the clutch after you remove that then you will be able to see the inner workings of the clutch . the lug nut is to remove the clutch itself off the drive shaft. now i don't know if the threads are the same on a deisel so you might wanna just take a lug nut off and try it just to make sure you never know it might be. i know john deere wanted 40.00 + bucks for the speacial tool to remove the clutch but the dealer in thibadaux did some searching and found out that a simple little 5.00. i did have to insert a i think it was 1/2 round bar and i really don't know how long that was you'll have to get the measurement when you go to take it off but i used that to make up the diference in the lug nut and the tool. the tool is about 5"long and the lug nut is about 2"long so you'll have to measure it. if i remember corecly i cut a 1/2 " ratchet drive extention and all i did was cut the female end off and left the male end onand it fit right in. let me know if i lost you some where's .i can give you my number if you need.
