How much are those going for? I have been wanting a 45/410 for quite a while

re: the Judge- too many variables to say, there are a bunch of different models and they are hard to find, making the price higher than it should be. Best bet is to surf the net and see what the model you are interested in is selling for and how available it is.

I found the judge online for $399 for the 3" barrel blued model. That is definitely an interesting option.

I am a big Beretta fan. Their 9's and 40's are great guns. Check out a M9 in 40. Have you heard of a website called budsguns.com? Lot's of pix and deals there. Gunbroker is another.

Anyone considering a judge needs to check out this link. http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/bot41.htm

Ridgewalker,
I had found buds, but not gunbroker, thanks.

The link for the judge isn't working. I read a couple reviews saying that it dirties easily with lead.

A dozen years ago, or so, I was out hog hunting with a buddy of mine.

For personal protection and a pistol to carry, I'm a HUGE fan of the .380 Stopping power is for big game, for humans, just making noise is 99% of what's important. I have no intention or expectation of winning a shootout in my lifetime. Cops and miltary personal with years of training rarely hit who they are aiming at in gunfights. The reality is that it's very dificult to do.

What is effective is firing off a round. It really doesn't matter what direction you are pointing the weapon, just the noise of it will send the bad guys on their way.

Good luck,
Eddie

At first, I thought the hog hunting story was going to be about going out drinking then picking up women.

The rest of it, as usual, very well put.

Ridgewalker,
I have one of those little model 21's in 22lr for my wife. Nice little gun. reliable as anything and easy for her to use. She always had a hard time with the slide on a semi-auto and then the sales guy showed her the model 21 and we bought it right there.

You might try to cut and paste it...it works for me when I click on it.

It's a good read and has some interesting pix

Wayne, that little dude is a .32 cal Tomcat. It's great for CC but so small in my hand that the slide has been known to cut. It is a great size for the ladies.

I think the Box-0-Truth site neglects one thing in his analysis of the buckshot from a Judge. He says it penetrated only 4.5" equivalent of bad guy, but he didn't factor in multiple 000 pellets hitting said bad guy. He also fired it from a farther distance than typical self defense uses.
One thing about the Judge, it really spreads out quick with buckshot, in fact it might be possible to completely miss a bad guy at 30 ft or so, but at 5-10ft..LOOK OUT:eek:
Thinking about it if I was in survival situation with only one handgun the Judge would be the best compromise if you had several types of shells...birdshot could bring down a nearby flying meal, the regular Long Colt ammo could bring down a deer.:)

Bigtiller- curious what you mean about not liking a 225 grain bullet? I've reloaded standard 230 grain 45ACP FMJ bullets into LC shells for mine and they worked fine....

Glock Model 20. I've taken a couple of deer with it out to 40 yards (you have the option of putting in a quality 5" barrel).

10mm is one of the most "all around" calibers that you can find IMO.

For a .357, nothing feels as good to me as a Smith 686.

I have the 10mm Glock 29. Fits nicely in an inside the pants holster and has quite a bark and bite...Ammo is expensive but I don't use it for plinkin!...Almost double the energy as a 45 with the right ammo..I also have a colt 45 series 70 commander that is a lot of fun to shoot but kind of heavy and bulky for carry. I like my Compact Glock for that.

Spreads out quick is right. I shot some 6 shot; at 5 feet the pattern was about 6 inches on the concrete driveway in front of me. At 20 feet, 4 BB's hit a 5x8 target. But when I shot a 2x12 from 5 feet it blew a quarter size hole almost half way through it.

The 225 grain I tried were long colt hollow points. The cylinder would lock up after every shot. I had to swing the cylinder open and closed to fire the next shot. Taurus said to only use 250 to 260 grain shells.
