Look at it this way.
You are only paying $0.17 per lbs.?

The rust appears to be mostly cosmetic. The unit is bent up pretty good on the left side it looks like. I would go maybe 200 at the most. The first thing you need to do if you get it is take that bolt out that is holding the pto shaft to the gear box and put the appropriate shear pin back in there. (I would imagine that is what is supposed to be there)

Yeah I noticed the "Shear pin"bolt. There is about 1 more day left on the auction. LIke I said I really don't need it but it is fun to bid on things and get a good deal once in a while. It does look like it has been well used.. Let's see aluminum is going for .25cents a pound. So at .17 cents would be about right for scrap iron:eek:

From here that looks like a Cat 5 bolt for a shear pin which as you said is a problem. Of course on the other hand, I'll bet you don't have to replace it that often.

Does it have a stump jumper. Is it 540 PTO.

I thought the PTO shafts with shear bolts had the shear bolt on the front part of the shaft with a fitting with bearings in it. That way if the bolt breaks the shaft isn't flying around all over? If not I would be putting a clutch on it.

$80 sounds cheap. I'd expect the serious bidders to wait until the last five minutes with their bids.

Lee, it may not be the right bolt, but it's in the right place. The end of the shaft coming from the gear box should have a groove with a split ring retainer that keeps the shaft from coming loose if the shear bolt breaks.

Yes the bidders do wait until the end sometimes. Right now it is at $102. It does have the stump jumper wheel. Here are a few more shots. You can see the metal that has been torn. That probably could be welded up easily enough. If the price goes for more than about $150 or so then I will pass. I can borrow one from a friend that is about 20 minutes away if I need one.
