...the only difficulties I have seen with gear is using a FEL, that takes alot of practice to get it down and just more work...

I don't know about other tractors but my NH 2420 has a foot pedal in addition to the console lever to control engine speed. Doing FEL work without the foot control would suck. I would assume that most if not all other gear tractors come with foot a pedal to control engine speed, but maybe not.

I guess I never noticed this before because I always have a full cold beverage in it but it was too cold for one today. After close examination I found two possibilities to cure this problem. One, I can use clear silicone on the underneath of the fender to glue the holder down so it doesn't rattle, or two, I can keep a full cold beverage in it to stop the rattle. Decisions, decisions? :D:D:D

It is never too cold for a cold beverage! ;)

.... if I'm supposed to spend all this quality time on an HST (none of which would ever be enough for you HST police to concede was enough for me to have a valid opinion anyway) then how in the heck do you expect me to do so? I'm mean really. What utter nonsense. "Go spend some time on one." How? Where? None of my neighbors here in the suburbs has one and none of the farmers next to my land have one, or even know what they are. Are we going back to the "rent one" thing. Once again, why? If I didn't like it I'd be out the rental money and would have achieved NOTHING. If I loved it and couldn't live without it, then still, NOTHING changed. I couldn't afford one when I bought mine and right now, I couldn't afford what I paid for my geared tractor. So, unless you can put up a better suggestion then you might as well drop that fantasy.

No one here but you seems to think trying one out is a bad idea.

My late 70's IH 2500b was a 4cylinder gas engine 50PTO HP tractor loader with HST. The operators manual said to set it at PTO speed on the tach when doing loader work. It also had a foot throttle pedal for more RPM is needed. The direction pedals were on the left side, the brake pedals were on the right side along with the throttle pedal and a diff lock pedal behind your right heel. Great setup.

I don't have to be educated over my level, right? You quotin' (geo's new confusing signature) Greeks an Roman's or somethin'?

Greeks and Romans? Nah. Its from Star Wars. A little edumacation goes a long way, but I think we can skip the ancient Greeks and Romans. They're all dead and they never had a tractor.

Although I think they once found a Roman mosaic that had a figure that looked very much like my L4400....gear tractor. But that's pure conjecture.

I think most hydros come with a constant flow cold beverage dispenser don't they? If they do, all this $/hp and spending cabbage arguments are out the window. The kids can forget about college cause I'd have to get me one of those.

I saw that mosaic in a Paris museum on the internet and the front side of the tractor had "Eta Sigma Tau" on it, so I suspect that it was Greek not Roman and not a geared tractor. :):):)

I wasn't aware that there was anything more antiquated than a geared tractor.

There are hundreds of threads for posters to jump to.. and if they don't like this thread they can ignore it...

Maybe if you were more friendly, people would offer, Holmes. ;)

Maybe of you were more friendly you would offer.

I'm Dr. Watson by the way, you know, the guy who never gets the "elementary" stuff. Is there a 'sarcasm' smiley?

Jake, by that statement you are kind of implying that this is the best thread going at TBN right now.

Yes, if you will do a search there are great threads on R1 vs R4 tires as well as double piloted check valves vs no check valves, airplanes on conveyor belts, 4wd vs 2wd, 4wd ws MFWD. And if you can't find one, just post one with one of those titles. It'l grow like a Chia Pet on steroids.
