I thought about the desert eagle.. but i already had an anvil in the workshop. ( man those things are heavy.. ) My 50AE is an AMT Automag V.. much less weight.. holds a bit more ammo. Has a gasport 3 on it for compensation. it's a brushed stainless finish.

the 500mag is a brushed stainless as well, and also has a gasport comp on the front... now.. it's the long barrell.. so I finally got the anvil!

They had one in one of the local stores. I seriously looked into it, but it was just too big for my hand. Or it felt too big and uncomfy. And no, I don't have a ladies hand

The large grips on the 500mag feel better than the ones on the 50ae.

As others have mentioned, the 12 ga. is hard to beat. Use #9 shot inside and #1 buck outside. Plus, it's much harder to get wrestled away or manage to shoot one's self with than a pistol - especially in a tense situation.

If you think this is disturbing just wait until the bad guy shows up at your place at O dark thirty. A firearm brings a lot of peace of mind. Don't be a sheep, be able to defend you and yours! Bad things happen to good people simply because they weren't able to defend themselves!

As a bonus guns are fun, pretty and a good investment!

Case in point, read Judgment Ridge: The True Story Behind the Dartmouth Murders by Mitchell Zuckoff and Dick Lehr.

This is the true story about the random killing of Dartmouth College professors Half and Susanne Zantop on January 27, 2001, in Etna, NH, a sparsely populated, affluent, rural town.

However, before the Zantops were murdered, the 2 teenage boys who committed the crime made another random stop at a different house (prior to which they dug 2 shallow graves), where they knocked on the door and asked for help, claiming their car broke down.

For several reasons mentioned in the book, the homeowner was suspicious about the pair and would not let them in - and when the boys became more aggressive, the homeowner reached to his side and showed them his Glock 9mm. When the boys saw the gun, they backed off and left the property. There were no shots fired, but there were at least 3 lives saved.

My guess is that Glock will be a bit higher because of the trigger pull and my pet peave with having to pull the trigger to field strip the weapon. My father knows a guy who just shot himself in the hand cleaning a Glock.

Hmmmm. I got my first rifle when I was 12 (long time ago) and from day one was taught that you treat every weapon as if it were loaded until absolutely proven otherwise.

I don't doubt that the Police Chief was well trained and knew better, but more likely was simply careless about violating the first rule of gun handling, thus the accidental discharge.

A gun (Glock or other brand) doesn't just "go off" while being cleaned or otherwise handled unless it is: a) loaded, b) the safety is off, and c) someone pulls the trigger.

True, however the Glock is one of the few sidearms that you must pull the trigger before you break it down.

I'm guessing Dan's point is that this is one reason why statistically speaking, negligent discharges (note: I did not say accidental discharges) may be higher with the Glock than with other sidearms.
