I don't think CDL should even apply to private individuals or non commerical situations.

Recreational vehicle are the only ones that are exempt.
That includes pull behind campers.

I understand but that's exactly my point. A cdl is required for a 450 with a 14k trailer unless your able to derate the truck/trailer under 26k. I do not have a cdl and was aware of the combine weight clause of 26k.

I have a CDL myself and don't give things like that a second thought. I just figured if you have a CDL B and your combined weight is under 26,000 you are OK. In NY even with a regular class D license your limited to a GCWR of not more than 26K.

I agree but that's where NY gets us on license fees. They have class A,B, & C CDL's plus a non CDL class C which is what most people who drive motorhomes require. The problem is there are a lot of people who drive full size motor coaches that easily weigh 30-40K and drive them with a regular class D passenger car license and will do so until they are stopped for one reason or another and get a ticket for out of class license. But stopping retirees on vacation is not something that is on their agenda and they usually only get caught if they happen to be involved in an accident. I'll bet most people who drive these over 26K lb. motor coaches don't even know they are driving without the proper license. Even certified escort vehicle drivers (for oversized loads) have a special test and fee to pay.

According to PA DMV motor homes over 26K require a non commercial class C license. Its in their site info I posted below.

Nice rig Wallace! BTW, did you hear there is a recession?

Glad to see someone is getting toys and has good news to report in all the gloom and doom we hear on TV these days.

Have fun with that F-450.

I never meant to indicate that you won't like that truck. I think you will. And in fact, my brother is very fond of his. And he can't expect very much mileage with any vehicle, as you can see by what he hauls.

Please don't take offense Bird; but with that picnic table up on the rack, I have visions of the Beverly Hillbillies and Granny sitting up there while they motor down Rodeo Drive.

Actually it should,, in fact, it should really, really apply to those driving or towing a large camper,, When my inlaws had 13 heavy wreckers going,, they were always busy. To this day, there are many camper/large self propelled campers that have major accidents,. The stretch of 84 between the Ma pike and CT state lines has always been a bumper crop of wrecks and campers,, I see them all the time pulling large 5th wheels, not a clue what to do and whammo. Ocassionaly, we still see small boat trailers and Uhaul types lay over,, 84 between Wallace's area of Mt CObb Pa and the PA/NY state lines were the same, You get in the hills and wind, black ice, you name it,, Campers for some reason are exempt and they shouldn't be. If you can afford a large camper than you can afford to learn what to do and be safe instead of accident prone,
