Well Rick the resident experts (builder and the 13 year boy) signed off so I guess you can get it. I can't believe after having the best truck and engine in the universe you would take a huge step backwards lol. Anyways that's a great looking truck and you'll love it. Do you have a class a cdl? I was planning on getting the 450 but with the gvw or that rig and my trailer I'd be over 26k.

CDL...yes I have one but I don't need it for my 450.
I licenced it for 26k that keeps me under the CDL and under the fuel tax:)

How is this possible? Isn't that gooseneck trailer 14k? And I believe the 450's are 14500 gvw right so you'd be 28500k truck and trailer. Are you saying your allowed in your state to derate the truck/trialer combo to under the 26k limit? If so we need that in CT since I'd be in the same boat if I bought a 350 drw at 13500k and my 14k trailer. I guess it really doesn't matter since you've got the cdl anyways.

Matt T.,

14K & 14,500 would actually be 28,500, not 30,500 :D

Yes, you can derate your trailer to, for one example, 11K with a 15K F-450 and be at 26,000 and not require a CDL. Thats exactly what I did with my old F-450.

I have attached license explanations for NY and PA. Each state varies slightly as you can see by noting a difference in the NY and PA class B license.

A) In NY and PA a class B license can drive a single unit truck over 26,000lb.
B) In NY and PA a class B license can tow vehicles with a GVWR of 10,000lb or less.
C) In NY a class B license may tow a vehicle of more than 10,000lb. providing the GCWR is not more than 26,000lb. Note that PA does not have this clause according to their website.
Perhaps PA has adopted this clause since put on the web.
D) a class A license for NY and PA seems to be the same for tractor-trailer or truck-trailer and is for a GCWR of more than 26,000lb providing the GVWR or GCWR of the vehicle being towed is more than 10,000lb.

There are also various restriction codes and endorsements that vary by state.

I logged onto the CT. DMV site and they are similar to PA. Tried to edit my post to include that but I couldn't add that attachment. Either way, a class A CDL is good for over 26,000 and trailer over 10,000.

What a complete brain fart. I knew that didn't sound right. My point was still valid as he'd be over 26k.

I understand but that's exactly my point. A cdl is required for a 450 with a 14k trailer unless your able to derate the truck/trailer under 26k. I do not have a cdl and was aware of the combine weight clause of 26k.

Wallace - do you mind me asking what you paid ballpark? I am just starting too look at new vehicles and that exact truck is on my short list.

The financing rates are real tempting and I hear the dealer incentives are over 10K.

Sticker on my truck was a little over $59,000
I paid $46,691. plus I added the navagation which my dealer did not order in on this truck he took it out of another truck and installed it into mine and that was $1,800
I thought interest rates were better than what they are but leaving my Chevy's interest rate at 7.9% and going into a 5.4% I thought that was good enought to get a new truck.

One thing that I found out is at least in our state the dealer is allowed to charge 2% more on the rate, my dealer did not do that because he was trying to get me to buy the Ford over the Gmc that I looked at.
Another thing DO NOT USE FORD CREDIT!! the dealer advertises a $500 discount for Ford credit...but then they charge you 8 plus %
Go to a dealer that wants your business.

My dealer gave me the first service free and a rental car free of charge while the truck is in warranty.
