Just remember that is not only Big Strong guys like yourself that could drop the groceries he is carrying and grab his gun and shoot the offender before getting shot or stabbed in the heart ..

I'm not anywhere near the picture of a big strong guy.. I'm 5'6 and 150#. I'm aware of my sourounding when I'm out, and if i sense a threat, my draw hand is free, and if possible already slightly in position to unconceal my concealed weapon. i didn't sign up for a CCW because i like to go fist-a-cuffs with the local muggers...

There will also be little meek guys , frail , elderly and also women with their gun in their handbag . A handbag a 12 year old hood has no trouble snatching , OH OH now we've got a 12 year old hood with a gun . Guns stored in cars , uncountable cars get stolen every year , i wonder how many guns end up on the street like that ? All these people would have as much right as you to carry a gun , and what an easy source for the crooks . .

My guns are carry guns.. not 'leave in the car while i sleep guns'. I don't carry a purse, and frankly, am not fond of concealed carry options that seperate the weapon from 'my person'.. like 'fanny packs'.. etc. I prefer on-my-body carry. I realize a woman -may- have less options, and a detached device like a prse may have to do. however.. there are ways to -help- prevent your purse from being snatched.. there are also plenty of easilly carried non lethal weapons lime keychain mace and tazers that may give you that 1-2 seconds you need to get the gun from the purse while struggling with the perp.. especially if he can't see.. or if he just fille dhis shorts after getting hit with 50kv.. or both. Personal alarm sirens are also usefull for women. In an area with some people where a perp my ty to run out snatch a purse and go, a loud 100+db alarm drawing attention tot he scene is not something he's going to want to hang around and 'fight' for your purse for very long.. hopefully.

I have no problem with people keeping a weapon for home defense , but carrying one to the supermarket or the hair salon does not sit well with me ..

Again.. i completely understand that line of thinking from someone who lives in an area with reduced rights. You don't feel comfortable defending yourself.. perhaps you -hope- the police will defend you? Me? I'll take my chances with my carry weapon any day of the weak vs a cellphone with a 911 operator on the other end as my 2 choices of immediate defense. It sounds like you may be a tad scared of guns.. that's fine.. if you are.. then don't carry them. I don't mind if you don't carry.. or don't own a gun.. as long as you don't infringe on my rights to choose for myself. Time after time it has been shown that legally capable people that carry concealed are among the most law abiding citizens there are.. so if the lady in the seat next to me at the barber shop is packing.. cool!.. if we get attacked at the store.. that's 2 chances for defense.. vs the attacker.. the more the better.

Ever notice that you don't see much strong arm robbery or forcible fellonies happen at a gun range? Why? cuz the perp knows the likely outcome to that game.

With your way of thinking it would be OK for Uni students etc to bring one to school with them .

Sure.. I have already said that if every legally qualified person carried a gun, that criminals would be sweating bullets... litterally.. ;)

In fact.. as far as the anti-gun crowd is concerned.. i think everyone against carrying guns or owning guns should have to wear a patch on their arm saying they down carry a gun.. and a sign in their yard declaring their house a gun free zone. Sure would lighten the load on us gun owners / carriers... as we wouldn't have to defend ourselves as much.. the sheep with the patches and signs would be handling all the excess crime.... hope them home security system operators and 911 operators can keep up with the calls!

" Hello, this is brinks home security, are you ok? "

" No! my familly is being killed and I can't defend them... please send help!!! "

" No problem, we are calling the police and they will be on their way. No traffic out tonight, so maybee 5 minutes and you will be safe"

"bang-bang-bang or stab-stab-stab"

"Hello, mam/sir. are you ok? cops will be there in 3 minutes... mam? sir? "

---

No thanks.. I'll keep my gun.. and gun rights!

I still feel that a well-oiled AR type machine in your hands (prior military exp.) would be what you would feel really comfortable with for outside the home perimeter protection, but that's contrary to a lot of the moral majority on TBN. It's only my opinion, militarily speaking.

That's one thing I like about the sks/aks/akm/ak pattern guns.. burry them in snd.. dig em up.. shake am out and start fireing...

Remember.. he comes from a no gun rights.. or severly restricted / reduced gun rights country. I completely understand why he thinks the way he does....

I think that is exactly the point. A gun makes an 80 year old women the equal of a 20 year old thief. Why would you try to mug a lady if there was a good chance she was going to pull a gun and put you down.

I believe your logic to be flawed. We are talking about people who have been screened and had at least minimal training to carry a weapon. And if you look at the numbers, where more guns are carried all types of violent crime decrease, in this case I don't think the numbers lie.

Also, you make it sounds like thieves and thugs have a hard time getting weapons now. I believe the black market provides for those who want to get their hands on them. It is a totally different element than those who are trying to get guns legitimately. But when you start to put doubt into the mind of the criminals about whether or not they will end up on the wrong end of the gun, they will be less likely to continue that lifestyle.

It is so simple and makes so much sense to me, and the number bear it out.

Or a doughnut shop? :D Or a local bar known to be a police hangout? :D
You're right Soundguy!

Kind of like the way sexual predators have to post signs in their yards (in certain states) saying they are such. I love it. It sure would help out everyone else that exercises their constitutional right to own a firearm! The sign would essentially be saying: "Hey, rob, rape or maim me and my family...we can't do anything about it...oh and mr. bad-guy, please don't cut my phone line...pretty please..., just come on in, we'll talk it out, we'll all sing kumbaya and do trust falls".

It must really suck to live in a country that has taken away your right to protect yourself Ironhorse. But, from your postings, it seems that you like it the way it is. You don't seem to be a firearm proponent and that's ok. Like Soundguy says, to each their own, but don't infringe upon my constitutional right to do so. Your personal protection isn't the responsibility of the police. It would be impossible for them to do so. Since I've never been to Aussie land, I don't know how the firearms ban was accomplished or how/why it was allowed, but I can tell you that here in the strongest country on the face of the earth, it may happen one day, but there will be a major uprising by the people first. It won't "go peacefully". We are a free country, with limits of course. However, if one Amendment is removed, what's next? Once the proverbial "line" is crossed, there's no turning back and the constitution of this country won't be worth the paper it's written on. I'll die before living to see that day!

Gooday,

Well, without a long debate, they are being used successfully in the desert as we speak. Having been in the desert in that region, I can tell you that it's very dusty, sandy, etc. You have to at least keep the bolt carrier group and surrounding (internal) housing partially clean, but not "spick and span".

However, let it be known that I sold all my evil black rifles for cash, all my ammo and accessories and donated the funds to the local "mission" in an unmarked envelope.

County by County Voting in 2008 Presidential Voting

That map would be much more useful if it displayed the weighted average of the two colors. I suppose most of us understand that very few counties would then be either blue or red. I'm not asking for a round of Kumbaya, but these us-against-them comments could also use a rest.

I'm not trying to make it us against them. It is just an observation that I made regarding the difference of opinion between urban and rural areas on many subjects, not just gun control.

You guys saying the oncoming criminal element will be " Fast Draw Type " or maybe they evolve and think "long range ambush" or will they just go with the more is better when faced by one well armed fellow?

Is the concealed carry in congruence with a quick draw?

What type weapon is best suited to the quick draw scenario?

Have you got that weapon in position?:D:D:D
