:D:D:D I am glad that my coffee mug was empty or I would have spewed coffee all over my computer.:p:D:D:D

You might want to try a scented candle or two. Maybe three or four. That might help calm your nerves so you can sleep.

Or maybe you are going through withdrawal for what you sold..... :D Too late to buy them back? :p:D

Later,
Dan

Well, I sold them to a black fella, no, he was indian I think, or maybe latino...maybe a white fella with a really dark tan...don't remember exactly. He paid cash. I then turned around and put the money in a plain manilla envelope and dropped it in a salvation army/mission box of a wal-mart parking lot in some small town on my way over to Houston. Can't remember the name of the town now, it was late and I was tired from driving. I just wanted to 'give back' to the community.

Since this thread is being monitored, I want the record clear on what happened to my stuff.

...Right now, an M 14, M 1, or Springfield are high on my list. I really prefer to be able to reach out before THEY get to where my kids can hit them with clods.........

How far is reach out? If it is reach then I'd go M14, Springfield then M1.

If it is size, simplicity, ammo, customizations or cool factor - M1 Carbine.

Gun control in this country probably won't come in the form of a full ban. They will just nibble at it, a little at a time, until they get it to where "everybody" thinks guns are outlawed, dispite the facts.
How many of you think that machineguns, silencers, shotguns with 12" barrels are illegal?
Get my point? They are legal in this state as long as you follow the proper procedure to purchase them, but the average person on the street thinks they are illegal and "why does anyone need one" type of atitude.
I can't say I have sold all my guns and donated the money to a good cause, because the paperwork trail has to follow them...

Well, without a long debate, they are being used successfully in the desert as we speak. Having been in the desert in that region, I can tell you that it's very dusty, sandy, etc. You have to at least keep the bolt carrier group and surrounding (internal) housing partially clean, but not "spick and span".

How about that 458socom round in an AR?

How about that 458socom round in an AR?

Are you asking what I think of that round, in an AR configuration? I'll assume that's the question. On the AR forums, the people that have them love them. There seems to be the constant dual between the guys with .50 Beowulf and .458 socom. Since I don't own either, I really can't give you the pro's or cons based on experience. Based on speculation from what I've read, I'd have to say I don't think a military application for either is warranted. Sure, they are both huge rounds, but they are heavy and having either as standard issue would hinder more than help the operator. Range is extremely limited on both. Sometimes you need the ability to reach out and touch someone...the aforementioned won't cut it.

As for a personal application (you and I having it), my preference is not to have anything that the ammunition is hard to find right now, or very limited. Just imagine how hard it would be to find it when shtf. I kept the items in my (former) personal armory simple, at least from a cartridge standpoint. 5.56x45 or .223 is easy to find, same with 7.62x51 or .308. .40 caliber, 9mm, etc. Of course there are several more that you can get almost anywhere, you get the picture. I don't want odd rounds. 6.8mm is a great round, but I can't find it at Wallyworld on any given Saturday...so you see what I'm getting at.

Gonna be offline for a day or so. I'll catch up to this link afterward. Got a hunting trip to attend. :)

So, considering the sale of all your guns and all your ammunition, and the recent trend in our society of disparaging hunters as heartless slobs just sitting in a heated blind behind a tree, will you will be crawling naked through the woods (naked to remove the unfair advantage camouflage clothing gives you) to jump on your game bare handed? :D

I think most of us here knew what you were refering to.. and that you were generalizing.. it// a couple hundred years ago.. etc... at least no one called ya on it.. etc.. ;)

soundguy

I'm a chucklehead and my math sucks! I'm surprised noone caught it, or if you did, I appreciate not being humiliated even further than I already am. I stated on either my last of second to last post that "Brave men....300 years ago." I was talking about the Revolutionary War with the British. Anyhow, should have been 230+ years...not 300. My bad, I know history well...just can't do math worth a darn! Now that that's out of the way, I feel better!

Doc,
That could be lethal around us these days. It has gotten cold. It might be a little better if you rubbed mud on your skin, insulate a bit, like in predator. But then you are really using camoflauge again, the conundrum...:D
