need opinions on a 955 4X4 w/loader

Okay, I'm looking to buy my first diesel!!! It is a 955 with 600 or so hours. Looks nice, probably true hours. It has a 70A loader and turf tires. The rear tires are pretty much shot.
The guy wants 8500 it. What do you guys think? Also, if I wanted to put R4's on this, will I have to buy wheels too? It looks like in JDPsrts that they have two different size wheels for AG and turfs.

In the northeast that would be a good price as long as no sign of abuse. Still would offer less just to see if he'd move on the price, just don't take long deciding, it's a fair price.

As for tires..I was able to find R4's for my 770 that fit the existing turf rims and stayed within MFWD front lead spec....but I had to research ..got the MFWD ratio from J.Deere and then got rolling circumferences of all available R4 tires that would fit the rims..bought the two sets that would work the best.

It was definitely not abused, It looks like it was a homeowner rig. The bucket did not have any dents or bends whatsoever. He is pretty rigid on the price, He also has these implements:
60" tiller (Land Pride) 800
60" Box blade 200
auger 400
York rake 400
60" mowing Deck (Included)
I tried to get him down, but he doesn't want to budge much. I will have a hard time replacing these tires if they cost too much. I'm really kinda bumming right now since this is me jump into a real tractor and it is slipping away.
I am going to call Deere tomorrow to get a price on tires.

Forget calling Deere..talk to your local truck or tractor tire shop, I asked my Deere parts guys and they told me too many things weren't available..including front tires and rims.....Don't let the tires make you hesitate (if you have other reservations hesitate away ) I used the badly dry rotted rear tires for a year before I upgraded to R4's...They worked fine, just ugly looking. Figure $900.00 to 1200.00 for new R4's all around mounted.

ps: buy that boxblade..you won't find one for $200.00

irwin is on point here -- sounds like a good bird!

Local borough here is still using 955's and 855's to mow all the area schools and ball fields, etc. All those high school and college kids do their best to run the snot outta those tractors but they're still gettin' the job done!

Seems a bit high on the tiller, auger and the York rake. Unless they're all like new condition. Between the three implements - looks like there's $2-300 in margin - IMO.

Interesting to see if the owner has a maintaince record for the tractor and any of the manuals, too. Give you a clearer picture of the tractor's history and upkeep.

The reason that I was going to get Deere's price on tires is that it will give me an OEM price to base my negotiations on. I would like to get the post hole digger too along with the box blade.
I will let you know what I end up doing.

One more question, I drove the tractor out on the guys grass. I put it in 4WD and drove about 50' I then went to take it out of 4WD and the lever was very hard to move. Is this normal or is there too much binding going on? Keep in mind that the rear tires are worn down to about 1/4" tread depth, and the fronts have almost full tread.

I can tell you that my 755 needs a decent snap to get it to move between 2 wheel and 4 wheel.

Because the front wheels actually turn a little faster then the rears, sometimes the MFWD is under tension when you stop. Put the tractor in neutral or even back up just slightly and the tension will be relieved.
