LMTC

The apple was eaten. Our God knew it would happen.

Keep in mind, there is no man who does not sin.

Could be argued that the true Christian does not need a gun, nor would want a gun. Yet another reason why I'm a sinner.

That said, nice thing now is that we don't jail those men of science who say the earth isn't the center of the universe.

Hey.. that turn the other cheek thing has it's limits you know!

Four: One problem with the shotgun: recoil, potentially making subsequent shots take longer than the AR15 type platform. As far as I'm concerned it's folly to count on one shot from any handheld firearm being "enough". Getting sights back on target quickly could be important..

I'm an average guy.. 5'6" 155#.. I've got no problem whatsoever with a 12ga long gun.. I shoot trap and skeet and don't have any problem staying on target for 2nd shot if needed. A small tactical pump will be a bit more.. but I have one.. a class 3 short barrelled shotgun at that.. and as said.. I can keep it on a silouette for all 3 shots in rapid succession at 'defensive' distances. A tactical regular length shotgun would be even easier to control.

A sidearm is great, to have with you. If you know there's going to be a fight or you plan to defend a position, why handicap yourself with only a pistol? A pistol is a compromise between effectiveness and portability. A long gun is more effective, whether it's a rifle, shotgun, submachine gun or whatever you've got availible.
.

If you know there's going to be a fight.. prudence would say to avoid the situation. Since you can't carry a long-arm concealed.. that leaves you with a pistol... for unforseen circumstances.

Shooting at the range is easy, clay pigeons don't shoot back.

Living in the "Bible belt south", my wife and I got that quote a lot from some of the churches we visited to see which church felt "right".

What I could never figure out is why someone would be afraid of a God who loves you as his child, and you try your best for what's in your heart to follow His word?

Make no bones about it though, I'm a sinner (Mathew 7:5 comes to mind right off the bat):D

LMTC beat me to it already with another verse, but here is one verse that says it best.

Psalms 34:7-11 "The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them. Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him. Fear the Lord, you his saints, for those who fear him lack nothing. The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing. Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord."

I'm not going to read all of it. I'll simply make a few points.

Two: Overpenetration. I've seen various sources indicate police departments are adopting M4 type weapons due to less overpenetration in homes, etc than even various service pistol rounds. Sounds good to me.

Hmmm. I disagree with the less overpenetration argument. If you are using frangible ammunition, which is readily available online (AMMOMAN.COM d/b/a Discount Distributors) I may agree, but not with regular .223 or military type 5.56 ammo. See The Box O' Truth - Ammo Penetration Testing and you'll know what I'm talking about.

Most police departments and sheriff's offices are issuing M4's or AR15 A2 style carbines for their officer's patrol cars these days, a lot of it has to do with them being potentially outgunned in a lot of situations. I don't think it has much to do with "less overpenetration". My opinion only.

I recently shot a piece of 1/2" A-20 piece of steel (tool caliber steel) with a rockwell hardness of around 23. I used an AR15 from 100 yards and tested 3 different rounds.

1. Walmart bought, Federal .223, 50gr, Jacketed Hollow Point. - Went about 1/8" into the steel from 100 yards.

2. Military surplus, Federal XM193, 55gr, FMJ - Went about 1/4" (or half way) into the steel from 100 yards.

3. Military surplus, Federal M855, 62gr, FMJ with tungsten penetrators - The copper/lead jacket went a little over 1/4" into the 1/2" steel, but the penetrator went through it.

Makes no difference as to the argument of staying on a 'possibly' moving target, as to if you can get more than one shot off with a shotgun.

if you can plink 2 at a clay pigeon in rapid succession.. you can plink 2 at an intruder running at you with an axe..

Up that to a 30-06 and the regualr federal ammo can punch thru mild steel ..

i found that out while shooting at some spinning targets.. they were 1/2" mild steel ( i believe )

I had the 22 and a couple other small rifles out. Friend grabbed my 30-06 and fired.. burned a hole clean thru one of the targets.

Hmmm, I wonder if that's why those preachers stand outside on the corner shouting that you're going to h e double toothpicks if you drink:D

I just got kind of tuckered out with preachers telling me I was going "down under" (not Aussie land:D) if I didn't listen to them. Thats including on how I voted as well.

Didn't you mention you drink alcohol? Well, geuss your going down under in the mind of some men of God around here to boot:D (no, I sincerely don't think that, but some people do).

Interpretation is an amazing thing. Take Christians. You have some devote Catholics who will swear up and down that the Bible states the Catholic Church is the only REAL church. Wonder why some people would disagree?

Back on topic. Couple nights ago, all heck broke lose with the dogs upstairs. Ended up going outside, let the sidearm in the house and went out with the AR with a light. Nothing there (at that time at least), but that's what I went for.

Thinking about it, an AR style rifle with a pistol caliber may not be such a bad choice for inside the house as long as you have access to it.

if you can plink 2 at a clay pigeon in rapid succession.. you can plink 2 at an intruder running at you with an axe..

Perhaps a man running at you, however, throw some lead your way and see how you react.
