New Holland Boomer 8n

If I am right it is the same tractor as you can buy now from NH but with a new dress to attract people who grew up around the N series tractors (which is japanese). Why do you ask though? Aren't most compacts made in Japan or other Asian countries?

Yeah, they are all Japanese. My original reply was censored by Ned Flanders, so if you were lucky enough to see the example of fine Japanese engineering, you were lucky.

The CVT that NH is putting in these will hopefully give the other MFG's the kick in the butt they need to bring out their own CVT version.

A MF 1500 series Dynastep would be awesome. :)

Maybe, though I suspect that once it is actually out people will see it as just another marketing ploy to sell retro styled driveway ornaments and move along to tractors for working, not waxing.
Those that DO buy it probably won't know the difference between constant velocity and continuously variable anyway, so a competitive butt kick will likely not happen.

I'd disagree. The Ford 8N is an iconic tractor. Our BS sensitivity is really high... but this really is turning some heads. There are very high expectations for it. Your right in saying its probably not a tractor that will get worked, its a machine to play with and wax afterwards... you'd be blown away how many regular tractors are like that. For guys that really want to put a CVT tractor in the dirt I am sure there will be a standard blue variant.

I think it would look better with R1's. Just for looks, nothing to do with traction or performance. The larger rear rims and narrow tires would make it look even slicker.

Tires I am sure will be up to the buyer.

Now that is exciting. If it's easy to switch directions with the CVT, it will surely be a big winner. I think a lot of people will come to look at the Boomer 8N and end up spending money on other tractors or implements. With any luck, it will be a marketing bonanza for NH dealers. For example, how many people go to the Ford dealer to look at the new Mustang and buy an Expedition or Focus instead?

Looks interesting. I will be more interested in what they try to sell it for.

Best thing I can see with a CVT trans is the ability to creep along at 300 meters per hour, or 0.17mph. Are my calculations close? This would be fantastic for snowblowing. What are the other advantages of a CVT trans? Totally mechanical? :)

I wondered what the material and quality of the drive belt/chain needs to be to carry the heavy load and torque required. Is the belt pretensioned or does it have some idler pulley to keep the tension up. Does anybody knows along with the CVT is there any other gearing is used to archive ranges (low, med, high) so creep, low gear/high torque could be achieved. A robust CVT may be the right medicine for guys like me on the fence that is pulled between Synchronized gears and HST.

JC,

PS. One more question, how about going back and forth?, it seems to me clutching and a reverser gear may be needed. Right?
