Well, let's back up a step here. What is your boxblade not doing - that makes you feel that more weight is the solution?

I'm wondering the same thing. I have a cheap box blade and clay and rocks. It makes itself too heavy every time.

Will,

The wheel weights are 60 lbs each, and I now have three per side.

I have a Woods and havn't had to add weight to make it take "bigger bites".
Now, if you have frozen ground and/or don't do any sort of a ripping pass with the scarifiers down and/or (further...) don't adjust your top link and/or (I'm running out of ideas here...) I suppose some added weight MIGHT be desirable.
At that point who CARES about UGLY ?

On mine, I didn't add the weights to improve the performance of the blade. I added them because I usually use the box blade for ballast when using the loader or forks, and it was just an easy way to get a little more weight back there.

I've been kicking around the idea of fabbing up a weight rack that will bolt to the box blade that will hold all 7 of my 42 lb wieghts.

I also need to get off my rear and get my ballast box filled, just haven't decided what material to use. Was waiting for some 100 lb elevator weights to fall out of the sky for me to use, but I'll probably need to make a trip to the scrap yard. Or, might just do the usual thing and fill it with concrete.

I just hang (4) 42lb suitcase weights on it like so (2 on each side).

Man, I sold my JD 750 with two suitcase weights on the front. Had I thought about adding them to my boxblade I would have kept them! I still have two very heavy weights that I'm going to add to my boxblade though. I think they are about 50lbs each, and I believe they came off of a skidsteer. They are rectangular and have a slot for a bolt on either short side. I plan to drill holes in the backside of the boxblad cause they will get them the farthest away from the tractor, hence more leverage. When I get it done, I'll post a pic of it.

I have a medium duty 7' Bush Hog box blade and don't need any weight for it to do its job. However, I have hung 3- 88 pound suitcase weights on each of the outside edges. I do this for when I need extra counterweight but in a tight package. The weights don't look ugly to me and I only use them for counterweight but I understand your issues with mis-matched weights not looking as nice. If you need the extra weight then you can either build a box to hide them in or paint them up so they blend in and together better.

I definitely use the weights to aid with digging on almost every job I do with it except just removing sod. and if someone extra is standing around we'll usually add extra human ballast.
guess we have some hard ground here cause even with the rippers all the way down and all that extra weight it still just scrapes the ground in some cases and requires several passes to get down even a little.
Some of my projects have been in woods dirt with roots, so that explains alot, my box is a HD 5' I now have rear remotes and am gonna get a hydraulic top link which should help with dialing in the sweet angle, even working the rippers back and forth while pulling may help.
