We are considering the purchase of the Harbor Freight 30 Ton Log Splitter.
I am wondering if anyone has any experience or comments regarding same.
Thank you,
Norm

Hello Norm and welcome to TBN.

30 ton is probably way bigger than you will ever need. I have a 21 ton and it splits anything I put in it.

I also bought mine through a local shop. I paid a little more, but the pump went 1 year later. I dropped it off on a Thursday and he offered me a loaner which I didn't need. He called me Saturday morning and it was ready to pick up. If the HF one breaks, where will you get warranty service?

I bought one used from a local tractor dealer. It only had a few hours on it and looked brand new. The brand name was "Chicago". If I had known it came from Harbor Freight I may not have bought it. I paid $900.00 for it. I have had it for three years now and it has been excellent. It is very quiet and has all the splitting power I need. I wanted to get a splitter that would split vertical and horizontal. I debated wether to get a 3-point hitch type or self-contained. There is plenty of discussion on that subject throughout the forums.

I have used both verticle and horizontal log splitters and I love the vertical type though the MTD 26 ton unit that I purchased is either vertical or horizontal I have never even used it in that configuration. It is easier on my back not to have to lift up the logs. Just my opinion.

I have a Harbor Freight 20 ton ***/vert that I bought many moons ago, so old it was made in Taiwan instead of China. I have used it every fall since without any problems, and it has split many face cord of wood. The only option I got with it was an Industrial cast iron sleeved engine instead of the non-sleaved standard one.
