No Insurance ... Vehicle impounded

1*Bet it will make the tow companies very happy.
2*Serves the people with no insurance right. Seems like there are more and more in my area with no insurance.
1* And the storage lots.
2*Nope it's a disservice to them and most everyone else.

That's how it works in my county... 30-day impound... costs over $1000 with towing.
Now that's just the ticket milk em out of a 1000 bucks to make affording the insurance even more difficult.
Isn't it wonderful how the compulsory auto insurance laws are putting more and more insured drivers on the road.

Anyone can print up a fake insurance verification card or cancel their insurance when they get their card. But when a cop pulls you over here they have a computer in their car and they check out your card online with the company and if it is fake or cancelled you get towed and a ticket $$$$$$$ and DESERVE IT.

My uninsured motorist insurance is MORE than my liability insurance because there are so many uninsured drivers around here. Why should I have to pay so much because they aren't paying anything?

Throw the uninsured bums in jail and crush their cars so I don't have to pay so much insurance to cover myself if those drunk good-for-nothings nails me!

Theres a good purpose and a bad purpose to this. I think that if I should have insurance on my trucks and cars others should to. I know some folks that cant afford insurance but drink a case of beer a day and drive, they dont work either. I also think that places like Belmont where I work that have alot of folks running around with the same social security number should have to insure thier vehicles to. I was at the 4 way stop and a Corsica hit the back of my company truck drove the hitch plum through the radiator and when i went back the driver itried to give me 20 bucks not to call the law. I had to in the service truck would have anyway. they fled the scene glad it caused no damages other than some paint. The down side last year the towing companies got into an agreement give the officers a percentage of each tow for an abandoned vehicle, or one in the road. An old man down the road that has a machinery lot was parked 10 feet off the road on his proerty and they had his towed. They stayed on this road 2 months. Even got the surveyors truck that was parked in my lower lots drive way 70 feet off the road. He was getting Gps on the stakes and they got his ride. Cost each victim 150 dollars. After a big stink and a tow company sued it all cooled way down.

In TN, no impoundment, but you get a fine. I think I saw an accident study that concluded that illegal immigrants are responsible for a higher percentage of wrecks with higher rates of fatalities than lawful citizens. They are more likely to have a wreck and more likely to cause injury than other drivers according to the study. In the case of illegal immigrants, immediate impoundment of the person would be appropriate.

They should not be allowed to tow it any where else with out the owners permission.
Towing it anywhere else is a gimmick to collect storage fees.

Well then my suggestion to you is simply make your own storage lot. Also get into the towing business. Then you can get called at 2 a.m. with the snow blowing and roads icy as snot on a brass door knob. Crawl on your belly in the snow, get the vehicle hooked up, and then have the owner cuss you because you have the audacity to want to get paid. Or better yet have them threaten to beat the **** out of you.

Then tow it to your lot. Have them show up at your place and want to get all their personal items out of the vehicle....you tell them no, not until you pay the bill....they pull a gun or knife on you and threaten to kill you. You know that if you let them have anything out of the vehicle, you will be stuck with a vehicle that you may get 50 dollars when you bale it and send it to the recyclers.

Yep....it is just a gimmick. Imagine the gimmick when some illegal alien runs into your vehicle, and your wife ends up in the hospital for 60 days. Goody for you....you got the GIMMICK removed from the law and they don't have insurance.....and you have maxed out your hospital insurance. But by gosh you got even with those greedy slobs of towing companies and storage lots.

DOn't know too many other bussiness that can hold your property ransom until you pay the bill. If I do a job I have to bill then pursue collections in court. Not hold on to the personel property of the customer until they can find the money. Don't fell sorry for you at all.

It's a closed system and the tow operators in the past have made "Deals" to get the contracts...

Sometimes the City sets up License, Registration and Insurance checkpoints... they claim it's legal because they publish the time and location in the newspaper 48 hours in advance.

You don't need insurance when you buy a car... unless, it's financed that is.

All insurance companies doing business in CA are required to submit data electronically... it is very simple for the officer on the street to confirm insurance and any cancellation notice is forwarded to the State DMV.

Stolen tags are a big problem and it's happen to many people I know... including me!

Two reasons people steal tags... no insurance or not passing smog check... it's a real problem... either way the vehicle can't legally be driven or towed... only trailered.

About the only thing that slows thieves down is making multiple cuts or scores with a razor blade making it impossible to lift the sticker intact.

By the way... I can personally attest to 16 year old male drivers with older mustangs or camaros paying $75 per week insurance premiums in 1998... with a clean record. Premiums are brutal for young male drivers in CA urban areas.

My state requires proof of insurance, but does NOT require vehicle inspections. They used to, but I guess we're all driving around in such junkers, it isn't worth the trouble!:D I have had both situations, one vehicle towed to a lot after ran accident, 2 sons going to the hospital--I think the fee was $75/day for "storage". Also had one towed to our place, later hauled away and someone actually paid a little cash for it. Guess which one makes more sense?

1*I hate this cause a rear plate is more than enough.
2*This sucks for 2 reasons.

That's the way it is. I'd be interested in hearing your thinking on why a concerted effort to keep uninsured dirtbags off the street is a bad idea.

Saying something sucks without giving reasons is a waste of bandwidth, but it does help get that post count up there!
