Snow Lots of snow to move

AK FISH: Please do not post any pics of the last post activites

Is every winter this extreme for you up there or is this out of the ordinary??

On the 110tlb could you rig up some sheets of clear plastic to the 4 post rops and use a small electric heater to keep somewhat warm??

That's one of the great things about Alaska in winter -- it's dark most of the day. Got less than 4 hrs sunlight right now. So, heck most camera shots wouldn't come out and even the neighbors can't see what you're up too... (Not that many of 'em are out roamin' around the woods at -30F.) :D

This is unusual to be hangin' on like this for so many days straight. Happened a handful of years in the 32yrs I've lived up here. (Like 2 out of every 10 years.)

If I decide to hang onto the 110 - I'm gonna get a Laurin (sp?) cab on it. I looked into it when I was researching a new machine but the CFO would've jumped off a cliff at another $7-8K!!

Minus 32F yesterday and it warmed up to -30F this morning... HEAT WAVE! No go on the tractor yesterday (only tried once) but I've got it plugged in and the battery charger on it today -- so, she should go.

cool pics! Yeah ive plowed for years on the open tractors.. just time that spending an hour bundled up vs possibly 12+hrs on the machine at one time or being OUT in the elements during a storm for commercial snow removal would really have me moaning after 20-30hrs... otherwise id have considered the non-cab.. plus if anyone else has to drive the thing around in a storm, i cant expect them to bear the weather like i can myself lol

My plan worked like a charm also........ I sold my previous open tractor before the end of winter last year, then made my wife help me shovel snow for the last few snowstorms. No problem spending the extra money for a cabbed tractor after that !;)

Great minds think a like....only got to out think the boss and she will give in.

After tomorrow we will have lots of snow to move. They are calling for 24-48inches by tomorrow afternoon. I suspect that we will exceed that if it stays over us. We are dead center of the band of Lake effect.

Denfinately!!!! I would have been soaked if I was out there without a cab. And the wind picked up a little also, so it was all over the place.

OK I need to agree a cab is the only way. Today we had about 3 inches of new snow on top of the 2 feet, with blowing wind over night. Tractor started plugged in a -34 and wind chill of -48. By the time I got the road blown, plus the neighbors places my feet felt like a solid piece of ice. I don't think I could had more layers of clothes. The last half hour I was dreaming about a cab. What a ugly winter so far.

I agree a cab would be nice in the winter, but the other 9 months, its nice to be out in the open. i came up with a homemade compromise cab for under $100 just to use in the winter hear in NH.... just a golf cart cover and some 1" pvc for framing. 15 minutes on, 15 minutes off... it keeps some engine heat in and keeps the wind and blowing snow out... last night and tonight will be -15 to -20...
