Hello Gents...

This afternoon was the first time I tried to get the 2305 out of the barn to move some of the piles of snow that have been accumulating here in western PA. The barn door opens to a medium slop that I thought would pose no problem for the 2305. This is a new machine, last year, with little over a hundred hours on it. It has the R4 tires, which show little wear.

At any rate, once I got out the door I couldn't move! It was in four wheel drive, and I was using the differential lock in as well. Nothing! The irony is that to get out the tractor, I had to move the JD 797 zero-turn which just climbed the hill with little slippage up the hill with about 6" of snow! Are chains mandatory on this tractor in this situation? Do I need to add wheel weights?

I bought the machine specifically because I thought the low center of gravity would make it a little less treacherous on our mostly sloped 16 acres, and it's performed admirably until today. It could use a bit more juice, but then everything I own couild use a little more juice. Thanks for your comments.

I would have your 4 wheel drive checked out. Were you trying to plow, blow the snow or move it with a loader.I have a 2305 and have snow blowed thru 3 feet of snow on the flat and up a fairly steep incline without any problem I do have 650 pounds of ballast and r4 tires no chains.I know it makes a difference on what you use in certain snow conditions.

Depending on the type of snow and the surface under it, I have occasionally had similar problems. I once got it hung up in about a foot of icy snow and it took quite a bit of rocking back and forth to get it out. The front tires are so small they just wouldn't climb up on top of the snow.
We don't get a lot of snow and I use the loader and a rear blade without any other ballast.

Did you have your parking brake off.
Somethings wrong somewhere /\ \/ it should have done much better than that.

I'd say you need some rear ballast or if you were plowing with the loader you may have tipped the bucket too much or may not have had it in float mode. If you were just driving through snow trying to go up or down a slope you may need ballast and chains.

When I had the 2305 (with Turfs), I found that tire chains made a HUGE difference as far traction was concerned, especially under very cold conditions, like -20C and colder. With rear chains installed I immediately found that my snow pushing capability more than doubled With the R4s on my larger 2520 I'd say the tires are not much better in the same conditions and am now contemplating getting rear tire chains for this tractor as well. Only thing holding me back is that I'm now contemplating an upgrade to a 3320 :D

I have to say I have had a similar problem. I have a 2305 TLB with R4's although I am not sure tires would make a difference. I was on a mostly flat flat surface with some ice under the snow. To my surprise once the rear wheels started to spin I was hung in the depression from the spinning wheel. The depression was not deep. I was surprised to be hung. Honestly. I used the bucket to push myself out. After having this happen a couple of times and having to use the hoe once to get out I decided to get chains. Then the nightmare began. Chains don't fit the 2305 with a backhoe. Dealer tried a couple of things which didn't work. I waited a couple of weeks and then the dealer found me some spacers. Hopefully it will make the difference.

I have a 2210 and from time to time I do get some slippage. I have ballast on the back, but every once in a while, if it is icy, I will slide back down my drive way incline backwards. First couple of times I held the break trying to stop it. Then I realized I need to quit trying to stop and drive it down backwards, keeps it from swinging and tearing off the snow blower.

I also switched my rear tires in the winter to a more agressive bar tire. Keep the turfs on the front. I haven't really needed chains up to this point.

If you haven't put your ballast box on, I would suggest doing so.

Yes, the wheel spacers for the X7XX series garden tractors will fit right on all four wheels of the 2305.
