Bird you do an outstanding job here on TBN thanks for your service! I will say that sometimes I wish that the offending post could disappear instead of having the thread locked but most of the time when a thread gets locked it is pretty much played out.

Chris

I second that about Bird's contribution here.

I had a whole thread disappear early on, when I posted some inappropriate content, got mildly chastised by a couple of moderators through private messages. At the time I thought it was more funny than offensive, now I realize it was over the line, just a little. :)

I host a private political forum. I have been astounded and disappointed in some of the viewpoints expressed by people I actually like.

Yeah. Funny how you know and like someone until you find out one or two things about them that goes against every moral fiber in your being. :p

Many years ago we used to hang around with several couples and one time this one couple brought this board game called Scruples. In a nut shell, the game asks you moral questions and you have to answer yes, no or depends. The other players have to guess what you will answer. YIKES!!! This one couple turned out to be complete moral degenerates!!! We never saw them again after that evening. No one would invite them over any more, etc... kinda creepy~~~ ;)

This happens here all the time. It does not take a discussion involving politics.

In other words, I do not want to know tbn'rs views on politics. I like and respect everyone here without exception and intend to keep it that way.

I belong to an organization whose members have varied political views. We meet weekly, and inevitably at some point, just like here, the discussion turns to politics. Provided the discussion remains civil, the discussion is generally enlightening and often ends, surprisingly, with everyone in general agreement. If the discussion becomes heated, it simply is ended.

Yes, at first I was disappointed to hear that many people whom I thought I knew, had opposing political views. But mostly, I grew to respect their opinions, once I realized what they were based on.

Even though I still often disagree with them politically, through these discussions I have grown to realize I don't have to dislike them personally, if we don't agree politically. Several have become very good friends.

Our system is set up to divide us. Through the free flow of ideas, those who are open minded, can learn our true differences, are few.

Again, I am not suggesting threads like: Bush vs. Obama on TBN. I am simply suggesting that if a discussion evolves to become defined as political, it does not necessarily mean it has to be ended, just for that reason.

Like someone already mentioned, I don't care to know anyone's politics on TBN either. Of course, reading my posts, it isn't hard to deduce mine. My apologies to all if I've offended you in my relatively short tenure here. Fact is, the Sheeple and Sheepdogs won't ever get along, but there must be balance. Simple as that.

When there's a Kubota vs. JD post it's bad enough! I can't imagine an outright "liberal" vs Republican thread. Lord help us. I don't think politics would play out nicely here.

That's why I keep trying to make the point, that is NOT what I'm suggesting.

Heck, folks, there's the perfect example. I bet Podunk is a fine guy. We'd probably get along well in person, because when he referred to people he disagrees with as "Sheeple" I'm sure he chuckles or something to show he doesn't mean to be offensive. :)

I would not worry to limit it here. At the rate OUR federal government is going they will. Some I have voted for turned out to be nuts also, Sorry.

As to closing a thread here, if it is due to one post could it not be removed and the thread continue; and is a private email sent to the offender(s)?

Also, if you come across something you think needs attention, is there a way to let a moderator know?

This might be construed to be the opening shot of a political post!

If it is caught early enough this is possible, but sometimes the posts come so quickly that things just spiral out of control. Moderators often will send PMs on removed posts.

Also, if you come across something you think needs attention, is there a way to let a moderator know?

There is a red triangle icon with an exclaimation point ("!")on the left margin of posts. This allows the moderators to be notified.
