BX Grass Catcher

now that you have had it through a summers worth of grass clippings, could you please give another review of the grass catcher? Does it meet up to your expectations and is it worth the money? Would you recommend installing it yourself or having the dealer do the install the first time?? thanks

I already had replied to your post asking about the grass catcher for your BX22 and more or less gave you my opinions and reviews.

To answer your direct questions regarding installation, I can't say for sure about installing for self, as I had the dealer install it, but I think looking at the installation procedure in the manual, I would also say it doesn't look like it would be that hard.

Regarding is it worth the money? Well, I think for grass catching it does an excellent job, but I am really looking forward to the leaf pickup this fall. Is it worth it........well as part of the entire package spread over the term so it was only a few dollars more a month, yes it probably is worth it. To go out and pay $1600 now to have it, probably wouldn't (of course this says more for get what you want during intial purchase and payments because it is harder to come up with additional money later on when you are already making payments on the first purchase /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

And last of all, it was the wife who made the final call on the catcher as she wanted the grass for mulch, I wanted to spend that money for a BX2200!! But reality is that this 1800 will do everything I want is it surely is more powerful than my old Cub 1811.

Last of all, as I stated before the biggest downside to the grass catcher is that it is a pain in the neck to put on and take off. KUBOTA NEEDS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.

I just finished reading all the posts that concern the BX grass catcher and thanks.... you have answered all my question so far. I will pose another question though. I was at the dealers a couple of days ago and there was what I remember as being a BX1800 in the yard that had a catcher on it Three cloth bags, etc. That tractor had a front weight bar on it and there were 4 or 5 suitcase weighs on the bar. I was wondering about the necessity of the weights. I would think that the tractor was heavy enough to not need it no matter how much was in the collection system. The salesman was busy at the time, so I never got to ask him about it. In fact, I have never seen a BX with suitcase weight before... Before posting this, I have read all that I can find on the suitcase weights and there is only one mention of using them on a 2200. thanks

I would think that would depend on the lay of your land. If you have some areas where you would be climbing steep grades or getting the tractor in to some unstable attitudes, you may need weight. I would think since the weight is pretty close and pretty low that you may not need weight. After all the weight is spread out from the top of the bag to the bottom and they are pretty close to the rear axle (the CG for rear instability). The engine is way out front so that would be the counter balance.

If you are doing heavy leaves, then maybe you put the loader on.

My initial inkling was to say you don't need front weights, but Rogue makes a good point that depending on terrain you may. My land is flat and I don't need it. Typically if anything I am looking for rear weight because of the FEL.

Bottom line, if the price does not scare you and you don't mind wrestling the thing on and off a bit, then I'm sure you would be happy with the performance of the unit.

My friends in AU thought that I was crazy, but checked into it and found that it wasn't available except by special order. The dealer there didn't know if it would work on a US version tractor.... I am going to do more research, but I think that it is only going to be a dream exercise. One of the problems is that it will have to come from a country that speaks English.... I can't read any other language and sometimes, I think that English is a foreign language also...
Do they make a front weight bar for the suitcase weight in conjunction with the grille guard on the BX????? Here in CT I have more than my share of hills and slope... not to mention rocks..... Junkman /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

If the dealer I talked to was correct, and my recollection is acurate, the grill gard can not be used with the front weight kit.

there are two zerks on the bagger driveshaft, and the gearbox oil needs to be changed periodically.
