Generator Chinese diesel genset, or PTO generator??

Hard to believe the prices you can get these things for if you keep your eyes open and time it right.

Diesel is nice compared to gas when it comes to sitting for a long period of time in between runnings, although I keep staybill in mine and I keep the tank full to prevent corosion. I've not had a problem.

Good thread as this is something SWMBO and I have been contemplating. JD4300....you can find those enclosed Diesel Gensets on eBay for 800ish shipped...if you surf around enough you'll find them in all colors of the rainbow. Brands ranging from Kipor to "Generator" LOL...HF even has one painted red. From what I can tell they probably all leave the same Chinese factory and you pay for the brand/color desired.

I've noticed that Costco is selling a Chinese gas unit that is a Honda clone under the Champion name. I'm surprised because Costco usually is pretty careful to only sell quality merchandise.

I did some research on this on the internet and there seem to be two kinds of reviews. Those that absolutely love their Chinese generators and those that had sudden and catastrophic failures. So I guess it all goes back to the variable quality control issue.

I have a 5KW / 10hp open frame diesel set and overall I'm pretty happy with it. I haven't put a lot of hours on it, but when I've needed it, it's always started and produced power. My father has a 6KW / 13HP open frame gas set and it uses twice the fuel mine does.

My personal opinion of the Chinese sets is that you're rolling the dice, sometimes you win and sometimes you loose, but I got mine for a song off eBay a couple years ago so I'm willing to take that chance.

I wouldn't run this set for days and days on end, I'm in the process of building a much larger unit to do that job but this one is nice for those power outages that last a couple hours since it isn't too hard to lug this one around and hook up.

I like it! Probably a lot noisier than the fully enclosed units. Haven't had much need to weld remotely but I do like being prepared.

If they would add an air compressor to it- that would make a great mobile rig to carry in the truck

Looks like the one I got off E-Bay, neighbor bought one last year and he's used it for two outages since then and likes it. Uses 9gal. of fuel running 24rs. although it doesn't have the welder. They're $899 and shipped free.
