Generator Chinese diesel genset, or PTO generator??

I'm sure it varies wildly, but way back in 1992 when I ran a NG line back to where I was building my home our utility company charged $1.35 a foot. We were not allowed to touch anything, dig the trench, bury the line after it was put in etc. Basically I could take their price or do without. I thought it was a ripoff, but really didn't have any choice but to run about 1000 feet back to my home sight. I guess the only place where I got a break was that they forgot that they had to cross a creek and go under a 20' wide section of concrete driveway. Since I was paying so much anyway they 'gave me a break' and didn't charge extra for that.

That gas well beside my property is a private well on private land and the property is tied up in heir ship, so there is about 20 different people that has a part in the property.

The owners hasn't did nothing to the property in over 20 years and there isn't a house or anything else on it, just a gas well. I know several people that has a part in the property and i tried to buy it, but they told me it will never be sold.

I know that well goes down over 1500 feet, and if i wanted a gas well put in, it would cost a lot of money.

So it sounds like you got a great deal.

I like a stand alone setting in the garage next to the fuse panel all wired up ready to go,
.

I keep mine in the shed ready to go, but not hooked up. I use it as portable power at other places. ;)

FYI, I have an Eastern Tool & Equipment (ETQ) generator powered by a Chinese-made Yanmar L70A knockoff. It has over 2700 hours on it and still runs great. So, I guess ETQ uses some of the better knock-off engines.

This looks like any old "whiz-bang", but has a good diesel engine on it.

No bad for a 3600 RPM unit (usually its the 1800 RPM units that last 1000's of hours).

I picked up a used Onan 20KW unit that runs on LP with 4000 hours on it. It has the vaporizer on it and all. It's been great, and runs about 1/2g an hour at near idle. It's a little big for my house, but it will certainly kick the 2hp well pump fine, and well as run the oven or dryer if desired.

Right now I run it off of a pair of 20g tanks. I figure I can get nearly 2 days off of one, and the other I can take down to get filled as needed. Eventually I'd like to get a 100g tank set, then I'd be good for 150+ days easily.

It is noisy- it is a 4 cyl Ford engine, with a poor muffler. I'll fix that some day too.

I've got a 200A auto-transfer switch with auto-start that I'll get put in someday too, so it just works even when I'm not home.

I also picked up a 4.5kw UPS from work with 8 deep cycle batteries on it. I use that for the computers and aquarium. It has a tiny charger on it, so I can't charge well from the Generator, but I may fix that some day too.

I know im looking at an old thread here but I have some input on a china made diesel generator that I own. The name on in is 5KW Longevity silent diesel generator I bought on ebay for 800$ delivered. The generator would blow the total DC fuse everytime it came off of higher revs. After some perseverence the california based company that was importing them sent me a whole new electrical panel including all of the wiring, I removed the enclosure cover and replaced the entire panel. I have pics of the generator torn down also if anybody is interested. That fixed my fuse issue. I want to say to anybody shopping for a china diesel engine, needs to change the oil very frequentally during break in peroid. I have 30 hours on my 2007 (year) generator and have changed the oil every 10 hours including blowing out the oil filter, fine metalic shavings were flushed out every time. But the engine starts and runs very nice.

Know this is an old thread, but to put in my 2 cents, I have three generators, a 4Kw/8HP Coleman gasser, a Silent diesel 5Kw bought a couple of years back, and a 12Kw PTO from Northern Tools given to me by my folks after they installed a automatic standby unit.

The gas unit has served faithfully since we bought it back in '89 after an ice storm, will go through 10-12 gallons per 24 hours under typical usage, and we did a lot of 24 hour days after the Katrina, Rita, and Gustav hurricanes. Due to a fuel shortage during the post Katrina days we got a lot more concerned about fuel consumption per Kw generated only to have that reinforced during the next two multi day outages. Fuel concerns plus knowing that the old green girl had a number of hours on her and feeling we need to have redundancy I started looking at the silent diesel units on eBay since I usually have a drum of diesel around and have friends with huge tanks for their farming operation that would let me get fuel if needed. That unit only uses 5-6 gallons per 24 hours pulling the same loads and does have enough extra oomph to run the water heater without shutting off the rest of the house. Have not used the pto unit yet and feel that the only time it will get used is to provide AC for a few hours of night time sleeping and will give the small unit a rest if needed. The importance of this was made apparent during the post hurricane days.
