Hello all,
Just put about 23 or so hours on my first tractor! It is a new Kioti DK 35se/hst with fel, a KL351 loader and a KB 2485 backhoe. I'm having a woods skidsteer/pallet fork(s) tool and a box blade/scraper delivered soon as they are cleaned and painted up by my local dealer.

My first question is about shifting with the HST. Sometimes the "Range" selector does not want to move easily into L,M,H without first depressing either the forward or reverse pedal to allow the gears to line up. Dealer says this is not a problem and the solution is what I stated already. Do you agree this is not an abnormal thing, or an adjustment that needs to be made?

Thanks!

My DK45SE HST does the exact same thing.
I have tried a few things in the past to get around this:
Dropping the engine RPM's to idle will sometimes let it slide into place.
Moving the shifter back and forth gently, not forcing it, will get it to drop in after a bit.
If you are on an incline and you let the tractor roll a bit that will line things up.

Now I put my foot on the brake, keep my hand on the shifter and just give a very light touch to either directional pedal and it goes right in.

Congrats on the purchase and Welcome to the Pack!

My CK20HST is a little tough to go from Low to High unless I hit the brakes first, as long as I use the brake first then the shifter moves smoothly. My idea on this is that when you let the HST stop the tractor, it leaves a lot of tension on the gears as the tractor slows to a stop. I think that by using the brakes to stop instead of the HST, this relieves that tension on the gears allowing them to shift easier.

Got any pics? :D

Thanks for the welcome and for the replies to my question.
I take it by the replies the 'condition' is nothing to worry about, or a defect that needs fixing....
As far as pics- I'll try to get some on the site sooner than later!
;)

Does your tractor creep?
Sometimes if the tractor creeps it will be harder to change the ranges, there is an adjustment to keep the tractor from creeping.

If your not sure what I mean about creeping, it's when you let your foot off the pedal the tractor should not move.
If it inches then you may need an adjustment.

YES! It does creep. And I thought I read somewhere that releasing the HST pedal on flat terrain would stop the tractor from moving, but it was recommended to set the parking brake because just removing one's foot from the pedals will not keep the tractor from moving(creeping?).

Could you say more about what to adjust to eliminate creeping, please?

And thanks: for your reply too... :D

This is a dealer set up issue. As you just took delivery I'd get the dealer to readjust it. I haven't had to do this myself given that Wallace is my dealer and obviously his troops did the initial adjustment properly.:)

However, there is one other tip I would add. Sometimes just stepping on the brake helps if the range selector won't go in the slot properly. Sometimes the tractor will move slightly when you are in neutral if you are not on absolutely level ground and that seems to make it a little more difficult to get it back into gear unless you hit the brake.

My CK30hst was a little stiff to shift as yours but got better after use and the normal shifting after 4 years. Using the hst pedal to barely move the tractor back and forth would help. Also, greasing the shaft that the lever is attached to helps. Especially where it is pivoting in the side of the tractor case. I just use a spray white lithium grease which creeps in nice to all the areas. You can see all the pivots of the linkage from the underside.
Have fun with your new toy. They sure make work a lot easier.

Spoke to selling dealer and he says that it is not an adjustment issue- that is the case with the shuttle shift trans, not the HST trans. I do step on the brake if rolling at all and it does help, as does the stepping on either HST pedal to get things to line up...
Its not a huge issue, but I was wanting to make sure there is nothing out of whack since it has now less than 24 hours on the clock.
I could wait four or more years for it to work itself out with use but I'd like to solve it sooner than later! ;)
I will see what they can do at the upcoming 50 hr service.
Also, I bought it on my credit card! Largest purchase ever in one 'kaching' of the cash register! Credit cards get the attention of the selling dealer real fast if there is a problem to be solved. At first he didn't want to allow it but he did and it was OK by me. Tons of frequent flyer miles to use up now!

What do you think guys maybe he should fly in for the Barbeque and we will show everyone how to adjust the hydro creep on the SE series tractors!:D
