John Deere Over-Rated?

When looking for a compact tractor with a nice, quiet, and well thought out cab, Deere owns the market.

Opinions are like ***holes, everyone has them. And this thread is full opinions...

The Owning and Operating sections on TBN say otherwise. Way more problems there than the Deere or Kubota.

Next time I am in the market for a "Tractor Forum" I will take that into consideration.

What are you trying to say about TBN'ers?:D:D:D I hope it's not what I first thought. :)

Huh? People come to this tractor forum for info. The info says Kubota and Deere have way fewer problems than Kioti and Mahindra. What does has anything to do with buying a "Tractor Forum". Bobcat has been in the CUT market for a year selling contract machines and now they are 2nd to none? Waiter, may I have a grain of salt please? Many are happy with their 2nd tier machines and there is nothing wrong with that, in fact, that is great, but to say thay are as reliable as a Deere or Kubota in general, it is my opinion that they are not and I base this on all the problems posted in these forums.

I'm a newbie to this forum, I have used this forum for almost a year getting opinions and advise from everyone here so, thanks to everyone! I am going to throw this out there hopefully not to upset too many people. What do all of these Manufacturers like Oliver, White, Allis, Case, IH, Ford/Newholland, Deutz, Agco, and countless others have in common? They all have either merged or been bought out by other company's or each other. Why? Because they are trying to compete with #1 JD. Why hasn't Deere had to sell or merge yet? Because they have a long standing tradition to make quality products and their service is second to none. They are also so diverse in other areas of business they can withstand the pressure that comes their way. Am I biased absolutely!! If I cut my finger my blood is Green!!!! This is not the only reason I bought my JD2320 this spring. Two things I considered is my wife works for Deere and yes we do get discounts but not as good as one would think. Second is the dealer network. I would have to drive 50 miles to find a dealer of another brand. If I did buy another brand I would be disowned as well as probably single again!!!! My family farms and yes we do have other brands of equipment, but where do we get parts from, the Deere dealer because they can pretty much get anything through their parts system. I will have to say that the other manufacturers probably make a quality product but to me it is all about getting parts and service. Yes it may cost more up front but like have always been told YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!! Oh and one more thing, IF IT AIN'T GREEN IT AIN'T A MACHINE!!::::D:D:D:D:D

I think people are always trying to justify buying something.. Deere most of the time is the target of there justification..

Personally when i compared the compact tractors under 30hp, the deere and kubota were neck to neck price wise maybe.. I didn't see the tremendous savings that would make me buy something that Ugly construction orange.. (just kidding!)..

ISU DEERE - I agree, that is the second biggest factor for me after a quality product, was a great dealer network.. locally i can get to 7 deere dealers within 50 miles, only two Kubotas and both are brand new, who knows if they will be around in 5-10 years..

While deere dealers have been here for my whole life..

I am a John Deere fan as well. I will not go so far as to say I bleed green.

But didn't John Deere buy there original tractor line many years ago?

IIRC it was called Waterloo Boy

Let me preface this post by saying I own several Deere's. I've owned new Deere tractors, a combine, several lawn mowers, all sorts of implements, and in general, have been a supporter of their business for quite some time. I grew up on a farm, I farm myself, and I own a business that relies on tractors. THAt said, I don't, not for one second, try to pretend Deere is ALWAYS "the best". Not happenin'. Read my other post's in this thread. I'll stick with my guns that Deere is #1. They have MANY advantages over their competition. But to think that's due to superior products across the board is a little over the top.

The reason why many other brands have sold out, been absorbed into other brands, ect, has very little to do with quality of product...... It's about MANAGEMENT and operation of a successful business. Deere has reached their level of success primarily because of brilliant business decisions and great marketing stratagy. Much of their competition in the past had products just as good, in some cases even better, but they didn't stand up to the litmus test of profitability on a corporate level.

I think Farm with Junk is right saying that it comes down to management and marketing. Hence why Deere made the decision to buy the Waterloo boy so long ago and start to build tractors. I will also recall saying everything deere has made has been a gem, because we have had products that didn't quite hold their own and another brand did. I think the main thing for me is that our Deere dealer will almost bust his back to help you. Case in point. A few years ago we were square baling hay and one of the knotters broke. Went to dealer and he said that it would take two days to get the part. And of course the forcast is for rain the following day. Well he had a brand new square baler on the lot same model as ours he went out to the new baler pulled the part we needed and we were on our way. I know there are dealers out there that will and probably do those same things that have other colors, but when you have a dealer that does those little things in time of need is what brings us back to their doors no matter what the color is!!!
