I am doing the 50 hour on my new BX 25 tractor I got last month. Book says change oil filter and oil, nothing about the tranny and hydrolics at 50 hrs.

Does anyone have a cross reference number for the BX25 oil filter? also since I don't have my book and need to get my stuff, what kind of motor oil do I need? something I can get from autozone I hope.

Do I need to change transmission filter and hydrolic filter? I cleaned the air filter, books says change at 100hrs.

Also, when I checked the front axle, i can put my index finger all the way down the dipstick opening and found no oil. I filled it with sae80-90 gear oil. Did something happen there?

Thanks in advance for you feedback.

My Bx2230 takes 10w30 or 10w40 depending on temperature. The front axle probably didn't get topped up at the dealer. The 80w90 gear oil you selected is the correct grade.

Best of Luck!

I thought it was empty. I put in four quarts (book says 5 to fill). Maybe someone was sleeping on the assembly line and at the dealer too? does it burn maybe a leak (didn't see anything).

Does the dealer actually go through their predelivery checklist?

I have a bx-23 so it might have changed but hydro/filter at 50 plus oil/filter IIRC were both at 50. I also cleaned the hydro strainer out since tran was empty and had some metal in it. Clean air lube/grease and check for loose fasteners should pretty well do it.

The front axle being low is a known issue that most of us have gone through. During pre-delivery, the oil level was probably correct but not until you work the tractor some, does the oil settle in the housing. Yours being four quarts low is the lowest I've heard someone say though.

Somebody with more experience please chime in here but I think you may have an issue with putting SAE 80-90 gear oil in without completely draining the quart that was left. From the dealer, they probably put in SUDT in the front axle and not SAE 80-90 gear oil. You can use gear oil, UDT or SUDT in the front axle but you can't mix them together.

Glad somebody mentioned it, was thinking same thing. He has mixed gear oil and SUDT. It will probably work fine. Might wanna crack that cap occasionally and make sure it doesn't foam up or something weird.

FOUR quarts low?! Geeez...

Topic save: I changed ALL fluids at 50 hours in my BX.

i found it is best to use kubota brand. i found over the years best to use the makes brand. an old co worker told me this it works great when you get it. if your deeler is good, i am lucky my tech is great. he finds stuff i would never find and then puts it on the warranty bill. best if your deeler is good, the 60 bucks for the 50 and the 170 the 200 will be money well spent. i have a MX5000 it is a 2003 and have had no troubble at all.

My front axle was low as well. I looked because of info posted on this forum. I went to the dealer and asked what was in there as the Owner Manual states both SUDT and SAE 80-90. My dealer told me they had SAE 80-90 in there. So that is what I bought and topped it off. I am not sure if it is a dealer thing or factory thing. But mine came with SAE 80-90.

Thanks. I'm glad to find that out about mixing oil. I will check with the dealer tomorrow to see what kind of oil is in there. I might get lucky if it's gear oil. The delivery person did tell me to put gear oil in there. If not I will drain it and redo and be out $22.

Fortunately I haven't used it yet. I am in the process of changing oils, filters and most importantly giving its' baptismal cleaning and 3 step waxing which I did not get to due when I got it last month. I had to put her to work right away with my landscaping project; shaping the land, filling, grading, spreading gravel on the driveway and landscape areas, planting a lawn and garden, putting in an irrigation system, making a road/arroyo etc.

It was getting late to plant grass but now that the grass seeds have germinated, I've got a little breathing room. It's been about 3 weekend and 49 hours seat time.

Any harm done with such a low oil level. What can happen to mixing the oil other than foam?

Here are what i use for filters... I like purolator, but you can cross reference for others... switched to the p before the oil filters p/n for the pureone filters instead of the regular oil filter.
Filter reference...
