I finally got around to making the side rails for my trailer. I used treated wood and bolted it together.

I made corner brackets out of metal at work to hold the front on. I made it with a two piece rear gate. I did not go the full length of the trailer so I could open the rear gate without droping the ramps.

Looks good.

I've often thought about doing something like that with mine.

Are your corners quick connect or screws/bolts ?

Nice looking trailer and truck. I really like the brackets you made.

Brackets are screwed in. I ran out of bolts. I was looking for some heavy hinges with removeable pins but could not find any and did not want to drill the pins out. I can remove the screws on one side of the brackets and lift the sides off.

Nice job on the rails and brackets.

I made a set on mine so i can haul 125 bales of hay and don't have
to strap it down, then i take mine off.

But i really like the way you fixed the brackets.

Thanks for sharing

I picked up some corner brackets from Northern Tools. They had the straights too. They had them in stock back in the trailer section. They work great if you're making the sides removeable.

Bill,

Thats one of the reasons I made these. I need to haul some straw to seed the yard. I was unable to get any grass started last year due to the drought.

I also have a lot of things I need to haul that would be hard to strap down but will travel great with the side rails.

That's what I am starting right now. I got mine at Tractor Supply:
Tractor Supply Company - Carry-On Trailer Left & Right Corner Brackets

My local store had the straights too. I'm just collecting the lumber and brackets now so it will be a few weeks until I'm done (I plan on having it ready for the spring mulch season!)

David,
Nice work on build those sides for your trailer.
Dang, you reminded me of another project to do. I've been wanting to do that for a year now. Yours really came out nice.
What are you pulling with?
Thanks,
Rob-

Thanks,
Rob-

2002 F250 Powerstroke, 50,000 miles.

I could of made the rails a little nicer but was pressed for time. I have some granite I need to haul from the other farm. They are a good size for a stacked wall I plan to do infront of the house. I should be able to haul one or two layers with the siderails on. Plus I have some creosote beams and old odd and end things from the old farm house we plan to use.

PS: Don't show me up too bad when you make your side rails...maybe wait and post once my thread gets about 15 pages back!!:D:D

David,

Your sideboards look great to me. I intend to do the same thing IF I can ever find a trailer I like....

Good job.

I would like to do the same, I am wondering if I can put process, or gravel, or top soil in it, and unload it with my loader? Any one ever try that?

New member and found your posting while Googling about side rails for a trailer. I need rails for my 20' trailer to carry "old" Marines in a parade soon. Your photos and comments are helpful.
