Build and Price
F350 4x4 srw, auto, deisel.

3.55 is the only option.

looks like with a stick 3.73 is the only option

DRW are needed for other ratios

Not sure what you are looking at but 3.55 is not even a option. I agree there is only one option for the SRW DIESEL trucks and its 3.73 gears. They have 4.10 and 4.30 available for the DRW and the SRW GAS trucks. Here is Fords towing site.

look at the build and price. 3.55 is the only option.

I've also seen a SWR deisel on the lot. it had 3.55s

My current 2008 has a 3.55 L/S with the 6.4L. It was reintroduced in 2008 as a measure to help with fuel economy. Prior to that (with mid 2000 year trucks and later) the 3.73 was the standard rear end with a 4.10 or 4.30 option with the dually - I don't remember which 4.XX was the option, but the 3.73 was the normal standard rear end.

The 3.55 availability is still an option over the 3.73 standard, but it is so touch with body style, bed length, engine, etc... it's probably a crap shoot as to if you can get it... same with vacuum or hydroboost brakes. I have hydro and the 3.55 L/S in my 2008 Crew Cab 350, so I guess I lucked out.

I still do not see it? I went in and built a FX4 SRW Diesel with a Auto, Super Cab, and a Short Bed and it gave me 3 axle options. They were 3.55, 3.73, or 4.10.

Chris

I was going base model with 8'bed and a standard cab.

Maybe then. I just built a truck identical to my 2006 and it gave me those 3 options. I built it all 3 ways and it worked.

Does anyone on here own a Ford V-10? I just traded my 2005 5.4 in for a new Ford 350 v-10 because I couldn't stand the lack of power in my 250 when I was pulling my trailerand all around driving. I couldn't justify buying a diesel because I only had 25K on my 2005. I have been averaging between 13.2 and 14.4 all around driving unloaded with 4:10 gears with the V-10 and it is brand new and not broken in yet. My 5.4 in my 250 got between 10 and 12.5 unloaded doing the same routes. Maybe the F150's get better mileage due to the aerodynamics but I couldn't take the lack of performance in the F250. I also heard they are having problems with the twin turbo diesels blowing O-Rings and radiators..

John, I don't own a Ford V10, but I think if I were to buy a new heavy duty pickup today, that would be my first choice. Fuel mileage is what it is. The actual numbers averaged over a month, or a year are nowhere as good as that best case we all like to discover and brag about. Every time you fill up, remind yourself of how much the diesel option would have set you back. Then as you read reports of 2006 and older diesels averaging over 21MPG on the road, understand that today's diesel trucks get much less.
Over a ten year span you probably will spend less on your truck than you would if you'd have bought a new diesel.
Oh and every time you read about some report of a Cummins or Duramax, just open the door of that Ford and remind yourself, none of those Cummins or Duramaxes are installed in anything nearly as nice.
Oh and one more thing, DON'T figure mileage. Don't even think about it, just fill it up and enjoy it.

I did do a little hauling with it for the first time because the manual states to have at least 500 miles on it before you pull anything. This has to do with the ring and pinion breaking in properly. My first impression pulling my tractor and back blade and a bed full of other junk was............ Huge difference from the F250 w/ the 5.4. The suspension on the 350 with the Rancho shocks etc made it feel like it was pulling a toy. The power was a huge step up from the 5.4 but not neck snapping by any means. Very smooth and steady. Gas mileage was better than i got in my 5.4 when pulling also. On the round trip of 60 miles, highway, side roads and hills i got just about 10MPG. I was very happy with that. I like the built in brake controller that shows up in the digital dash with the gain etc. Very convienient. I am happy i went with the V-10 and not the diesel because it fits my needs better. Sure the diesel will outpull my V-10 but mine pulls when it has to and I don't haul things for a living. To sum things up..... I like it a lot..

Love the truck. The one thing I did notice is the tires. I had them on my 2006 F-350 4x4 Diesel and the stunk. They wore out in 30,000 miles and they would get you stuck in a wet lawn. My Uncles F-350 4x4 V10 came with the same ones and he had similar experience but I do believe its a little worse in the diesels due to the torque and heavier front end. I got my truck stuck 3 times in the snow the first winter I had it. My F-150 and F-250 along with my neighbors F-150 went right through the snow I got stuck in. They all 3 had BF Goodrich AT tires on them.

The Contentials just clog up with snow and mud and do not clean themselves out turning into slicks. Its not just Ford. The guy on the other side of me has a Dmax that came with Bridgestone tires and it was horrible also. We both put on new tires after probably 30 hours of internet research and what a difference. Made both into new trucks.

Not saying you will have problems also but we get snow here in Northern Indiana, I assume you do also there in New York, and 6" or more and that was all it took. We do not have county snow removal so only major roads get done until us guys on our tractors get out and do it. I have adopted about a 2 mile stretch I call my own but does not do much good when you are at work and have to get home to the tractor.
