John, I don't own a Ford V10, but I think if I were to buy a new heavy duty pickup today, that would be my first choice. Fuel mileage is what it is. The actual numbers averaged over a month, or a year are nowhere as good as that best case we all like to discover and brag about. Every time you fill up, remind yourself of how much the diesel option would have set you back. Then as you read reports of 2006 and older diesels averaging over 21MPG on the road, understand that today's diesel trucks get much less.
Over a ten year span you probably will spend less on your truck than you would if you'd have bought a new diesel.
Oh and every time you read about some report of a Cummins or Duramax, just open the door of that Ford and remind yourself, none of those Cummins or Duramaxes are installed in anything nearly as nice.
Oh and one more thing, DON'T figure mileage. Don't even think about it, just fill it up and enjoy it.

Resale value?

Torque?

I got my truck stuck 3 times in the snow the first winter I had it. My F-150 and F-250 along with my neighbors F-150 went right through the snow I got stuck in. They all 3 had BF Goodrich AT tires on them.
Chris

The BF Goodrich AT KO tires look impressive but they really aren't. They load up with mud easily, snow isn't much better.

I agree with the rest of the people here, the new diesels are not worth the extra cost unless you are pulling day after day. I have driven a F350 with the 5.4 pulling only about 6000 lbs, and it labored the whole time. The V10 is the best choice.

Love the truck. The one thing I did notice is the tires. I had them on my 2006 F-350 4x4 Diesel and the stunk. They wore out in 30,000 miles and they would get you stuck in a wet lawn. My Uncles F-350 4x4 V10 came with the same ones and he had similar experience but I do believe its a little worse in the diesels due to the torque and heavier front end. The Contentials just clog up with snow and mud and do not clean themselves out turning into slicks. Its not just Ford. The guy on the other side of me has a Dmax that came with Bridgestone tires and it was horrible also. We both put on new tires after probably 30 hours of internet research and what a difference. Made both into new trucks.

Not saying you will have problems also but we get snow here in Northern Indiana, I assume you do also there in New York, and 6" or more and that was all it took. We do not have county snow removal so only major roads get done until us guys on our tractors get out and do it. I have adopted about a 2 mile stretch I call my own but does not do much good when you are at work and have to get home to the tractor.

Chris:

I'd like to replace the Firestone Steeltex all-season tires on my F-250. I'd like something a little more aggressive for when the snow flies; but I don't want to go full bore off road tires because of the noise and mileage hit because of the tread pattern.

I'm partial to Michelin; but I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks,

Matt

I've bought tires from here before for my Jeeps. I had MTR's on them. Traction was exceptional but they wore fast and were noisy after they started cupping..Have to rotate them quite frequently.

X2 I had many sets of them and they are unstoppable. I had to have them on my Fords to keep from getting stuck with the ltd slip rear.

I really like the Goodyear Dura Trac. My neighbor just put them on his Dmax and what a difference from the factory tires. He had been stuck twice with the others back by his wood pile and these new ones just motor through.

Resale value means more $$ to the owner the longer the truck is kept!!!

How do you justify that?

first off, if you are the drive it into the ground type, resale value is negligable.

if you hold on to it for several years, lets assume you get an extra $1000 for that $8000 option.

the only way higher resale value help the long term owner is if there is an insurace claim.

I am with Duke on this one. If you were to drive a diesel into the ground, you should get many more miles out of it, and even when you think its dead, someone will want it for parts or a pulling rig, or to rebuild.

In my experience of changing vehilces and building some show vehicles, the diesel ones always repaid me almost 100 percent of what I had into them. The two Gas ones we built got 50% of what we paid for them.

If you keep a vehicle up, a diesel will repay you down the road, in longer lasting, or in $$....
