M59 vs L5740 w/CAB & Bradco 511

Laurin does make a cab for the M59but I hear it's pretty expensive.

Agreed, laurin makes an awesome cab. Unfortunately, in most cases their unit is more expensive than the oem factory cab!

Go with the M59 no question.

I faced the same decision, decided m59, and it was clearly the right decision - I push the m59 with what I want to do, no way would the 57 have done it.

non removable FEL is not an issue for me. Drop the bucket off, and the FEL adds barely anything to the size of the machine.

And I can, and do, run a number of skidsteer implements off the front (rake, auger, grapple, snowplow, harley rake)

Cab is an issue though.

I forgot to mention, the 5240 handled my 490# grapple pretty well. The M59 is a beast with the same grapple seems the additional Hyd. GPM flow makes the grapple jaws stronger and quicker to open and close.

I am starting a demo job of small frame house, the M59 is having its way with it, almost like a full size B/H

I stopped in at a Kubota dealer the other day to pick up some parts and they were just finishing an install of a Laurin cab on an M59. I asked the service manager if I could go into the shop to take a peek and he said ok. It looks very nice, close to a factory cab and very similar to the one I had on my 110, just more room. My biggest grief would be the rear hoe window needs to be removed if you want it open, there is no way to fold it up out of the way and also, they were installing a Red Dot AC unit on the roof, very high and vulnerable to getting wacked with branches and the mechanics were complaining that they had to fab all the brackets for the compressor and there were no directions from Red Dot as to where to mount it.

On a side note, when I got my cab, I contacted Laurin and bought it directly from them for $5500 and did the install myself. I was happier doing it that way because then I knew exactly how all the wiring was run and the plumbing for the heat was done correctly.

Happy dilemma Tim, only you know how much the TLB part of the tractor is important but I 'd go with a M5040 or up with a factory cab and an added BH myself. A true utility machine, larger and sturdier ....you have to migrate out to use the BH though.

I have received a lot of great input and I am thankful for all of it, especially from those with experience on both sides. This is a very tough decision to say the least, especially now that I have located a really good deal on an M59 that is only 9 months into it's warranty and well under 100 hrs.

I was lucky enough and very thankful to get offered the chance to see another member's 5740 and I really liked the machine, but I am just not fully convinced I would be happy with less than 3000lbs of lifting on the fel or having to position my body between a backhoe and a glass window.

So deciding between $35k for a 5740 with 6 way hyd gannon that is 18 months old and no backhoe or other attachments, or a fully loaded M59 with the exact same amount of hours on it but almost a year newer for $42k makes the M59 REALLY tempting at this point.

Once I find out what the M59 cab would cost me I think I will have a much better idea. Anyone know a Laurin dealer in the western US that might be able to give me a quote?

I've looked in on this thread a few times - because you are exactly where I was several years ago - looking for a 50-60hp machine with 11' hoe, maybe a cab - but how does it live with the hoe, etc. When I was looking there wasn't an L48 or M59 - but there was the very heavy and very strong L5450 (59hp) that was available with a Bradco HD11 (like the 611). I've been happy with this set up for years. Recently a roomy Laurin cab has become part of the picture. It is plain terrific for snow blowing. I got another L5450 with a Laurin already installed - and transferred the Bradco to the cab tractor. It doesn't have A/C. For summers in MA I just take off the doors and rear window. It has a huge fresh air blower so heat isn't a problem.

Based on the discussion so far, I agree the lightly used M59 is a great choice. The Laurin would make a nice addition - but pricey. I'd suggest contacting Laurin Inc directly to see who their dealers are in your area. Nobody sells/installs a lot of them so you may do well by installing it yourself. They weigh over 1000 lbs - maybe your wife can hold it while you put the bolts thru

Well, I got a reply back from Laurin directly in regards to pricing of the cabs and boy are they pricey. However, while I was waiting for that info, I was able to land what I believe to be one heck of a deal on an M59. Here is what I got:
Purchased new in 8/08 then traded in on a bigger unit.
60 hrs on the clock with all service records including updates/replacement to bh & fel hydraulics (seems typical for this model)
Fully loaded with every option available hyd frt, new top n tilt/triple remotes, hyd thumb, new toolbox, all the lights, etc
The rear tires are filled with a non-calcium liquid (can't remember the name now but it costs over $1,000 alone)
2 yr extended warranty on the tractor only
Delivery to my house from another state
All for $47,000 total and it only has a couple scratches on the bh bucket.

Congratulations on your "as new" M59 - now you have some breathing room to decide whether to add a cab - and when. Maybe it would be good to get the feel of the machine for a couple seasons with just the roof ? Whatever you do, don't get it dirty.....
