Ratchet Rake - ever seen/used one?

   / Ratchet Rake - ever seen/used one? #61
Barbara from RR got back to me again (this is all in one day and on a Sunday). They can ship it to me by UPS for an extra $38 in shipping. Not bad to get it all the way up here to the frozen North.

I'll post some impressions once I use it.
Did you order one? Did you receive it if you did order it? If you ordered it and got it, what's your input?

I almost ordered one, but by the time it got her it would have been C$400.00. That seems like a lot of money for a single piece of steel and a couple of ratchet straps. Don't get me wrong. If I could have walked in to a store and bought it for the price on the site, I'd probably be on my tractor using it right now.

I do still think that the concept is sound. I'm thinking of having something similiar made, but down-sized a bit for the BX. 3/8" plate for the BX seems like overkill. I realize that for a sturdy skid steer this would be necessary, but I like to have things on my BX2660 that will break or bend before the expensive Kubota parts do. 1/4" should be more than enough.

The folks at Ratchet Rake have a good concept and good customer service. I'm just a long way away and that makes it expensive and impractical to deal with if there are any issues.

Alright, since no one is posting more information or pictures on this thread, I guess I'll have to hopefully next week.. Not sure if this is funny or sad, but my Ratchet rake is set to be here Friday... ;)

Funny part is.. I don't pick the new/first tractor up until Saturday, and won't be home until Sunday (BX2660)

Unfortunately, I've been out of commission for the last week with a medical issue and haven't been on the tractor. I'll post more soon.

Good luck with the new tractor and rake.

Wow, go away for a while and come back to a full thread.

Anyway, thavil and basic, I was wondering how do you switch between big and small tooth useage. Is it simply controlled by the angel of your bucket or do you have to actually remove the rake and flip it over?

I just looked at the price again... dayum! That's pretty steep!

Thanks,
j

I was wondering where you went? I thought maybe you were a setup man, to start the thread and then run so others like me will purchase the rake!:D

I still haven't had much seat time lately to fully test out the rake. The rake only mounts in one position on the FEL.

1. Going forward to rip out the underbrush (or whatever you are ripping up), the FEL is placed level. In the level position, the larger teeth point forward and rip/cut what you are working at. At the same time, the smaller teeth that are sticking straight down are ripping at the ground.

2. Going in reverse, you place the bucket at a 20 or 30 degree dump position, and place your FEL in front of the stuff you just ripped out. Drive backwards, both sets of teeth will be touching the ground. You will drag out what you just loosened up while the teeth rip more roots and smooth the ground.

I finally got off my arse and ordered mine today - and received email a few hours later that it shipped. If nothing else, the turnaround is good.

Was in the woods today eyeballing all the uses for this new tool. With all my hills and tight spaces between trees, I think this thing will be quite useful.

Good luck with it Eric. I think it will serve you well. Hopefully you can give a better assement than I did for the other TBN members that are on the fence with purchasing it. I assume you didn't purchase much at the Brandywine auction? I've never been, I need to go one of these days.
