What are you expecting out of a 20 yo trade? But you can't value a "trade in" by the dollar they give you for it. If you are trading in on new or something else the dealers value the financing, price of a new car, etc. Even the undercoating! Can't just go by a number.

Truck wasn't 20, it was 16 yo RobJ

If you got $10,000 for trade on one, but piad the full price, out of one pocket and into the other. I know but that didn't happen, you paid $38 for a new 07 SD. :D

No kiddin, but my point was that a diesel brings a near of not more than KBB value.

And I'm pretty sure you owned a Dmax in the last year or so to not split hairs, do I need to look it up. I don't keep up with what Builder drives this week.

Some of have lots of work to do and we need several trucks to get it done. It's not "what I drive this week". It's "what number of vehicles do I need to get the job done moving forward". 3-5 employees going in 2-4 different directions, you do the math. I don't use a truck to commute to a bus station to ride public trans to work. If I did that, I wouldn't waste my money on a full-size truck, not to mention a diesel full size truck.

My Ford dealer charges about $30+/- for a LOF on my V-10. The diesels are running $100+/- for the same routine maintenance.

Like Groo said, one can buy a lot of gas for the diesel price premium.

Do the maintenance yourself. Up here, diesel is 12 cents a litre/48 cents a gallon cheaper than gas. I really hope GM releases the BabyMax, because I would be in one in a second.

Diesel is running about $2.43 a gallon now and is about the same as regular. You can bet that when the economy picks up and more trucks are rolling that diesel is going to do the same climb it did last summer. The refiners know that industry runs on diesel and trucking companies will pay whatever for it and pass the price increases on to the customer. People can cut back on driving and that seems to help control the price of gas. If I didn't need the towing capacity of a large truck I wouldn't hesitate to get a gas engine. My '07 Expedition XL gets around 20mpg interstate driving.

Oh that hurt.. :D But then again I haven't made a truck payment in 6 years! So I think I'll keep it!

You are correct about the diesel going back up. Last year and before we(all refiners) were exporting a lot of diesel to the emerging markets. That has slowed and that's why the price is down. I see diesel lower than gas around here now and it hasn't been that way for a while. It's still supply and demmand. I work for a US refiner.

My Diesel was saving more money per mile over gas when fuel was high and diesel was more than gas.

Here in Indiana gas and diesel are $.01 apart right now. Gas is $2.60 and diesel is $2.59. Been that way for about 2 weeks.

Oh, are you implying I directed that at you?
I didn't. I had no idea you drove a diesel truck to a train station everyday.

RE Payments: 0% payments are a smart financial decision for some businesses.

Having owned a 99 350SD v10 4x4 for 98k, and a 2003 Dmax 4x4 closing in on 100k, I feel that one could make arguments favoring each one,[gas or diesel] until they are blue in the face. As far as the dmax goes, it sure is nice to leave NE OH on a full tank, set the cruise at 78mph, and not think about stopping for fuel until Charlote NC. Like wise, I sure do miss how that V10 would be blowing good heat 2mi down the road on one of those snowy OH winter mornings.

When the current Dmax croaks, I will do what I have always done, drive them all, crawl around under each one, and buy the one I like the best, whether it has spark plugs or not.

Bottom line, buy what you like, not what the other guy tells you to like

I feel the same way, no matter how brand loyal anyone thinks I am.
