I just bought a 2305 and was wondering if the fuel consumption will get better after breaking in tractor over time? I am new to diesels!

I think they do a little better after they are broke in. It's hard for me to tell. I bought my diesel when we moved here two years ago. We have an 8 acre yard. I use a lot less fuel mowing the same yard now than two years ago. But then it takes me less time to mow it since I have become more familiar with the yard and the tractor.

Probably because it has a small tank and one has to fill it constantly.

How hard are you working it? Fuel consumption can increase drastically with work load. Mowing heavy grass or especially rototilling will use double the fuel. How much fuel are you actually adding each fill? The tank holds about 6 gallons but the fuel guage is a little funny, I can be half empty before the needle starts to go down and it goes down fast. I never actually checked but my 2210 is somewhere in the 1/2 to 3/4 gallon/hour range with a light load, but something like 1.5 gallon an hour rototilling.

You don't have to do everything at the 540 rpm mark. I've found as you increase the rpms above 2200, the fuel consumption increases exponentially. I mow between 2200 and 2500 rpm and it sips fuel.

I burn 20 litres in 15 hours or so when using the backhoe and loader.

I bought brand-new 65 hours ago and have beat the living bejeesus out of her clearing land. Stumping and materials handling. She is a sweet machine. I run at 2500 rpm, still below the Hot Line and am so impressed with the hydro static transmission.

So are the truck drivers delivering gravel and having it GONE in twenty minutes (12 yard truck).

The fuel consumption is AS EXPECTED. It does a lot of work for its cost and I wouldn't ever look back at owning it. I have worked with Fords all my life and I am so happy I went in this direction!

All the best, John

As another poster said, what makes you think your using a lot of fuel? and how much have you been adding per fill up?

My BX23 has a 2.5 gallon tank.
Don't seem like I have to fill it constantly.

Well when you spread the work out over 3 tractors than of course you won't be filling it constantly.
