Massey 135 just aquired

Re-install is one (of many) reasons why I suggested getting a SERVICE manual.

I don't know the exact year (or serial # break-off point) but LATER model UK (Canadian too) 135's went to the straight axle. I'm thinking it was around '72 or so. I have a buddy who's more in tuned with UK models that I'll pass along the serial # to him. I'm sure he could identify the year based on ser. #.

Brakeman could you humor me and get a picture of the steering gear housing? I just haven't seen another one like mine anywhere. Wanted to see if they are the same.

Here are a couple of pictures I had available right now.

I think what you have there is a 2135 OR more likely a 135 TURF SPECIAL. (Note non-adjustable front axle) They were quite different than a standard 135.

Farmwithjunk the guy I purchased it from said it was an Orchard model but I am thinking more and more that it may be a hybrid of sorts assembled from more than 1 tractor. It has the same rear axle and 3 point setup as a 165.

Anyway it runs great so I am not concerned about the hybrid possibility. Just makes working on it a little more interesting.

The orchard models did use the 165 style rear ends..... That would make perfect sense. I believe that's what Flusher's 135 is.....

I checked Dirtleg's 6/21/08 post ("Just bought a 135 orchard"). His 135 has that beefy rear axle that's very different from the one on my 135 orchard.

My 135 has the standard 135 axle (shown in this photo)

As near as I can figure, the original owner of my 135 cut down or replaced the front axle spindles to lower the tractor and substituted 16" dia rear rims for the standard 28" rims so the tractor could be used in his olive orchard. It sure doesn't look like any of the 135 orchard tractors in my MF fat book ("A World-Wide Guide to Massey Ferguson 100 and 1000 Tractors--1964-1988").
