like i said take those away and you might as well forget the tractor.

I don't know anything about tractors I've operated 3 in my life including the one I bought about a month ago.

I have a "12 speed" syncro-shuttle I can change directions at low speed without the clutch. When I put it in Turtle 1 I know how fast I will go, same for Snail. Seems like if I had HST I would be constantly fiddling with the speed and that would require way too much thinking.

Quite the opposite; requires much less thinking.

Nope.

Its like automatic vs. manual transmission on a car. Though HST makes more of a difference to my mind. Unless you are a farmer with specific needs, in which case you don't need to ask the question. On a CUT level, I just can't imagine not having HST.

In my mind having or not having HST is a preference. Some don't see the need and others wouldn't do without it. It's all in what you like. To say without it it's not worth having a tractor is quite a stretch in my opinion. But then again it's just my opinion...:D

Test drive HST vs Gear. You decide what you like better, there will never be consensus on that issue here :D

Personally, I am very very happy with FWD and HST. And a loader is a must. Handiest tool on the farm after the pickup truck.

I have a Kioti CK30 and move round bales. It's probably not really big enough but I could not afford anything larger. Plus, a bigger tractor would be too large for a lot of the places and things I do on the property. The bales are between 500 and 800 lbs and I only move them with the backhoe on for ballast. The tractor moves the lighter ones no problem but the bigger ones are at the limit. And, if I was on a slope or whatever I'd be nervous (or just would not do it with the loader). Keep em real low. The 3ph could move them fine. Heck, I've even picked some up with the backhoe by squeezing them between the boom and dipperstick (smaller ones).

1*-2*Take away the FEL HST and 4x4 and you might as well forget the tractor .

For 100yrs the farmers of this country have been using 2wd standard transmission tractors and have been very successful. My grandfather started with horses then he bought a F20 in 1935 ran that till 1950 then bought a cub he had that tractor for a few years then bought a INT 300U. In 1975 he bought a Long this was an upgrade for him since he never owned a diesel or a tractor with power steering. He had given up farming and only used the Long to move, dirt snowplow in the winter gather firewood that he did till he was 94yrs old,And you could not take those task away from him.
OP at this time could use a Farmall Super M with a 3pt hitch to do every thing that he has on his list except loader work.from what he posted he is looking for a tractor he can afford and since HST is more money he can get a standard tractor with more HP and weight for less money.HST is a convenience not a necessity with his description of his land he could probably only need a 2WD.tractor.4WD is nice but I got away without for 45yrs.
So whats your point if he doesn't get the tractor that YOU prefer he should not get one!

Update.....

So the 10ac's in question... we are in escrow on it now. Suposed to close on Aug 14th.

Well, the title company just sent me loads of documents yesterday. One of them was "restrictions." Now this property is about 15 miles outside of San Antonio mind you.... very nice rural area. Lots of horses, cattle, hay cutting etc....

According the the LEGAL restrictions... the BIG 3 that stuck out:
-NO "temporary" structors are to be used as permanent housing - My wife's aunt lives in a trailer park in her 34ft trailer we were going to move her out with us. (There are other tailers in the area).

-ONLY ONE "mature animal per real arce of land" - Are you kidding me! - there are properties all around with loads of cattle!

-NO COMMERCIAL busines to be conducted ON the property - So, no horse boarding or growing veggies/pumpkin patch etc....

I asked the realtors and the current owner if there are ANY restrictions before we even put n an offer. They all said no. They all say "Well, there is this down the road, or that over there." trying to justify that the restrictions are not enforced. If a neighbor doesn't like ME or what I am doing they have LEGAL ground to stop me.

All this tractor shopping may be for nothing.

Thanks for all the help though.

If your not buying the 10 acres you now have plenty of money for a tractor! I say go for it anyway! You will need it, or at least you will die trying to find a use for it.

Sorry about your luck, but you sound like a guy that for the most part knows what he wants, and you more than likely will find another piece of property. In that case, hopefully, we will see you on here again in the near future. Good luck!

Called 2 places today and they gave me some numbers:

Kioti CK35 - $14,000...
Branson - 3510i - $19,900... I tried not to laugh out loud. Bills Tractor quoted me $16,500

... did Montana buy Branson or did Branson buy Montana. What would this do to Branson? I liked the 3510i at Bills but don't want to get into a company that might not be there next year.

At that price for a Branson 3510i I would have laughed in his face. I wonder what these guys are thinking about sometimes.
Here's a link to some info about the potential merger of Branson and Montana.

The Branson and Zetor brand Century have a Cummins A engine.
I suggest a 4wd tractor with a loader about 45-50 hp no HST to keep the price down and for added weight.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe that Kukje (manufacturer of Branson tractors in Korea) makes their own engines. I was led to believe that the same three cylinder engines that are used in the 3510 are also sold to Cummins, who then puts the Cummins name on it. Small clarification, so you don't expect to see "Cummins" on the engine in your 3510.

Don't over react to the restrictions until you get some legal definition of the terms that they use, i.e. - mobile home may not be considered temporary if you remove axles and put some sort of foundation under it.

Good luck, I hope it all works out for you.:D

I have run across these types of restictions also when I was looking at property in Missouri. It turns out most of the restrictions were set by the original landowner, especially if his intention was to subdivide his land into parcels. This was usually done so he could get all the parcels sold without encountering new owner problems. Unfortunately, once the restrictions are recorded they are legal until modified.
It sounds like the restrictions you are describing are not being enforced much. It could be the original owner is long gone with no interest in the land. Also, I would think, in view of all the "violations going on around you" that it would be pretty hard for someone to sue. Your realtor should have informed you of the restrictions long before closing time too.
I guess the bottom line is either take your chances things won't blow up in your face as time goes by, or move on now. Tough decision, I feel for you because I've been there. Mike.
