Going tomorrow to look at a 2005 Kubota BX23 with front end loader, backhoe, 5' landscape rake and disc. Asking $13,800 It has 300Hrs on it.

Is that a fair price?

I know the BX line sometimes say BX23 (2320 2350) So is this just a BX2300?
What does the last two numbers stand for?

What should I be looking for as far as abuse?

I have pretty much the same set up, I have a 54" MMM as well. Mine ran around 17K new in '04. From what I've seen mint ones go for that kind of money, although that's a little on the high side, but I've seen them sell quick in the 11-13 range with hours like that.. . You'll be able to tell real quick whether it was stored indoors. To me that's important. Prevents dry rot of hoses etc.

Make certain that all of the scheduled maintenance was done, That is the most important thing. Some people have said that they skip the hydro fluid change. That is a fatal mistake.

Look at the bucket, hydro lifts and lift arms, make sure nothing is bent.

Obviously check the function of the bucket and BH, all directions. Check the stailizers and the 3PT for function. This is to make sure that the contols are good, and the hydrolics are funtioning properly.

Run it in 4x4 also.

These things are like tanks, so it's not easy to really abuse them, unless you go out of your way.

I'm sure you'll get other things to look for, but that's what comes to mind.

It's a great machine, if you buy it you'll love it.

Wow, Mr. Brown...that is a tremendous amount of space to say one single thing. Impressive.

To the point, the BX23 is the same generation as the BX1830 and BX2230. This generation improved VERY slightly on the previous generation, the BX22, BX1800, and BX2200. This entire time, the 2 cylinder BX1500 was produced with little change.

Major improvements happened with the BX24, BX1850, and BX2350. But there were some changes that needed to be made, and that brings us to the current generation BX25, BX1860, BX2360, and BX2660.

So for the sake of discussion, the BX, obviously, is the Kubota sub-compact line of tractors. The first two numbers refer to the horsepower of the tractor...15, 18, 22, 23, or 26. The last two numbers refer to the "generation" of tractor...00 came first, the the '30' series, the '50' series, and the '60' series, which is the most current.

I have the '30' series and love it. All metal and very tractor-y. The newer ones are quite nice, but had some teething issues that have been corrected. I had the option between the '30' and '50' series when I purchased my tractor and have been very pleased with my decision.

That sounds like an OK price...not incredibly good, but not bad for what you're getting. For me to buy that tractor, it'd have to be stored inside. If it is a 2005, faded paint and popped seat would be indicative of an outside tractor. Mine has been kept inside since new and it is shiny and not faded.

The BX23 is rated at 22 horsepower.

The BX23 is rated at 22 horsepower.
AMENDMENT:

Except for the BX23, which for some stupid reason only had 22 hp instead of 23. Go figure.

As an extension to the immense level of clarity required on this site, the BX24 and BX25 still soldier on with 23 hp despite the numerals in their names, as well.

Don't ask me. I guess they had to call them something...

The BX23 is a great estate maintenance machine. Kubota advertised it as the "Swiss Army Knife" of estate maintenance and it's pretty much lived up to that billing for me since 04.
I use mine more as a finish mower now that I've conqured the "grunt" tasks around my ponderosa and w/the 60" MMM it's as good as any dedicated estate finish mower I've ever owned.
It's so easy to swap implements that I do it now without even thinking about it. My BH doesn't get much work now but the FEL is my 2nd most used implement. I've got alittle over 400 hrs on it over the course of 4.5 yrs and I'm so satisfied w/it's performance that I have no problems recommending it too others with similar requirements.

re. the price.
If I were to trade mine, it would be for a larger machine w/a conditioned cab but since I have no real need for it, I can live w/my BX23 except, if I could get the price for it that you've been quoted. I gotta say that would be a great price for mine :D :D
But, it's too high....... especially when you consider you can get a brand new BX25 w/0% financing. Depending upon what your lending institution is charging for financing, the monthly payments may be closer than you think......
Try offering $500 to $1000 less and visiting a local Kubota dealer and price out a new BX25 and compare.
It's a buyers market right now, take advantage of it and good luck.
