Make sure it has a good axle and ratio in it. When I was looking for a V-10 powered Excursion last November through about April to replace my 1/2 ton pickup I had a hard time finding one with limited slip for some reason. You can tell by looking on the drivers door pillar. You can google the code to find out if its limited slip and if its 3.55/3.73/or 4.10 If you can not find it I have all the codes. Just post it or PM me. 99% of the time a Ford truck will have a two digit axle code and if its numerical only its NOT limited slip. If it has a letter then a number its limited slip.

Ah...it has a code 31. 3.73 non-limited slip. Is that a big deal if it is a 4wd?

Man, the torque comes on really early with the diesel. I am still thinking V-10... Heck, I am at almost sea level. If I was up in the mountains - the turbo diesel is probably a no brainer.

I wonder if I could put a 5.9 Cummins in there...

No, because after 50-75K the Ford limited slip is shot anyway. You have to replace the clutch packs to get it working like is was when it was new.

The Ford limited slip is not a real stout locker. Don't worry about it. If it has 4x4, you'll be fine for mild off roading.
