Trade 3720 for 4520?

If you put two weights per side then definately go with R1 tires. R4s' and a fel wont get much traction. Much of my work is in customers yards so I have R4s' on both of my tractors but agree that for field work the R1s' are better. For your information I measured the weights on my 4520 and they stick out 4 3/8 " each wheel.

Thanks for the pics. I did order a cabbed 4520. I decided to go with 2 weights per wheel. 3 seems excessive and stick out too far. I have attachments if needed for more counterweight. Many times I just need some counterweight and don't want to add a attachment for a breif FEL job.

That will be a nice setup and I hope the R1s' work out for you. I can tell you this much though with R4s' and 420 lbs of front weight and 660 lbs of rear weight my 4520 cab tractor can still slip easier than I like. When I tie on to my 6' field cultivator is when I have the most slippage.

I guess if you need more weight, you can always load the tires.

How deep you running that cultivator?;) I have not yet taken the FEL off my 3720 and probably won't on this one. The FEL should give another 1200 lbs or so of weight, 440 lb of rear wheel weights and with the 600 lb cab, should keep it planted. I guesstimate, it will weigh close to 6000 lbs total. (I have trailer and 3/4 ton truck that can haul it.)

Well I have only had a chance to drop it in the ground for a few minutes to see how hard it was to pull and yes it was too deep. But since I now have all my hydraulics completed I will give the BB1284 boxblade a workout this weekend and see how well it does.

My tractor weighted is about 5600 lbs and thats without a fel or liquid ballast. My 110tlb weighs about 8000 with the cab and pulls well behind my 3/4 ton truck so you should have no problem. I live in the mountains in New Mexico so I pull both my tractor and backhoe with a F550 which is heavy enough to hold it while parked on a hill.

Well, the JD 3720 sadly went down the road today. Sold it for the price I was asking. It actually sold faster than I had thought. Sold it on for over 8K more then 2 dealers were willing to give me for trade in. I did tell one of the dealers, his trade in price was rediculous. However, that has been my experience with attempted trade in of other very nice tractors in the past. I firmly believe it is much better to sell privately than trading in. I don't mind a dealer making a profit but over 8K difference is rediculous on a CUT. Plus a buyer from a dealer would pay additional taxes in most cases depending on the state. The dealer I did purchase the 4520 did give a trade in of 4K higher than the other 2 dealers. I had the option of either trading in or selling it myself with this dealer. He didn't care if I traded or sold it privately. He even offered to help any potential buyer with financing through Ag Credit if needed.

On a happier note, the 4520 should be here in about 2 more weeks.

How much did you sell the 3720 for.

Please give us the scoop when your new tractor comes in.

I agree with private selling whenever you can. Remember, a dealer can always get a brand new tractor at dealer cost, so that's why they don't offer much on trades. But because its a coveted cab model deere compact, it sold quite easily.
