The shaft is about 3/4" out of the pump before the damage. I was thinking of maybe welding to couplers together, or maybe welding the coupler right to the shaft. Only problem may be if the shaft is heat treated, the weld may want to pull off off the shaft. I experienced that once when trying to weld a stud on an axle some time ago. I guess worth a try........

How about drilling and pinning the coupler onto the transmission and then slide it up onto the pilot shaft without a locking clip such that the transmission shaft holds the coupler bushing in place instead of the clip on the pilot shaft? With 3/4", it seems you could drill two 3/16" pin holes. If you have enough spline, you could make that work maybe without welding. If you don't trust the strength, then you might weld in addition to the pins. No matter what, I think you are going to have to take it easy with that tractor. I don't know if that coupler is going to take shock loads coming mainly through the PTO driveline. It'll be a judgement call and a bit of a crapshoot, but what the heck? You are trying to save a transmission. If it won't work, you haven't put yourself in any worse shape than you are now. Good luck. I don't envy you this decision at all.

I just spent $400.00 for the set of service manuals and a parts book as I am getting ready to split my TC40DA. I have a cracked "front" transmition housing to repace. Glad Gould37 noted it was only a bout a 4hr job, though I need to go a little further. Good luck with your repair. I should get away with about $2000.00 n parts costs. I use Messicks also, but hope my dealer will give me a discount as the tractor is a 2005 but only has 989 hrs. I traded my 01 TC33d for this machine (bought both new) after the clutch housing cracked Twice! Anyone know of issues with the TC40da's front trans case? It is acuatually the gear case directly behind the HST pump.

Let me get this straight. You had a TC33D and broke the clutch housing twice. Now, you have a TC49DA and the front transmission case is broken. You must be the most unlucky man on the face of the planet.:eek:

Good luck with your repair. I know of no issues at all with the front transmission case on the HST tractors. I have carried thousands of loads on all kinds of uneven ground with my TC45D and it is still solid as a rock. Do you also have a FEL? Backhoe?

Yes I have the FEL and Back-hoe. Both NH and reccommended for the machine. I may seek out a qualified welder to get an opion on welding the case, but dont want to take a chance and have to do the job again if the weld repair fails. I am rough on my equipment I know, but complete all scheduled and preventive maintenance.

HI, I'm a new Member and recently broke my 2002 TC25D's Clutch Housing. From the looks of it, it failed a while ago and took alot of pushing & pulling to finally break it free. When it broke I had no foward or reverse, but luckily I still had the HPU. I bucket crawled out of the woods and onto the trailer. The Shop repair costs to split the tractor and replace the Clutch Housing is about $6,000. Has anyone had any luck getting NH to contribue to a repair like this? Having the FEL mount on this fairly weak Housing seems like a design flaw to me.
