Here's my recommendation for a tractor anti-theft device:

I throw the PTO switch. The tractor won't start if that switch is set to PTO. I checked with my homeowner insurance company and they assure me that the tractor is covered for theft long as it's on my property. My agent told me that as long as it's not required to be registered with the DMV, then I didn't need a separate policy to have it covered. I did up the limit on my insurance by $25,000 for the full value of the tractor new. It was under $100 a year.

So my best anti-theft suggestion is to be sure you're covered by insurance.

We had a rash of equipment thefts awhile back, so I disabled the glow plug connector. Danged if I didn't forget what I did. I removed the chain that was wrapped around the wheels, and was stymied as to why it wouldn't fire up.
DUH!! The mind is a terrible thing...you don't know what you're missing until it's gone:(

insurance is good.. pto switch is a mere moments distraction... a prepaired thief will know your machine.. and/ or will know how to bypass it.. or heck.. the old rollback don't care about the pto switch..

I like this one. Especially with the thought that the intruder did not know ole Rover was lurking about. "Take a bite out of crime!" :D

A couple of hamburger patties with sleepy time powder would take care of that, or one of those tranquilizer guns. I suggest something to make noise, let off smoke bombs, and dial your cell phone. You could dial back to your home and activate the spikes in the road.

You know what, the thieves also read this forum.

I was reading an article on home security a few years back and it said that any professional thief knows how to handle dogs.

My 2 dogs would be making a HUGE racket before the thief got within 20 feet of my yard. I used to have problems with vandals and little minor nuisance thefts like someone siphoning gas out of my car and someone slitting all my window screens, but since I've had my dogs, the problems have stopped.
