Sig Sauer P226 Pistol

Bird,
I was reading one of our local papers this morning and there was a short article about Sig Sauer offering a "cash for clunkers" until Nov. 30. The firearm that you turn in can be from any manf., has to be in working condition, 9mm or larger caliber - .38 or larger. There website may offer more information on the details.
Unfortunatly it requires turning in a firearm, but it knocks $200 of the price of a new Sig.

Bird, that's truly interesting to read about the history of carried arms. Now forgive me for the shameless plug - but in 9mm, did you ever shoot the CZ75? I don't have one, since I like revolvers better, but it can have up to 16 rounds magazine (75BD) and it is used by many police forces all over the world. I had a chance to mess with it and it is one nice shooter even for me as a revolver guy and they are priced better:)

Edward,

I'm really not interested in anything other than a 9 mm 226 with multiple magazines, at least one of which must be a 15 round magazine, a holster for the pistol, and a carrier for two magazines.

You'll go the range and see something else you like. Then you'll want that one, too. Then another one and another.... So you'd better save yourself from all this while you still can.

There was a time when you would have been right, but I don't have to worry about that anymore. I'm thinking I may not be able to afford the one Sig, and know for sure I couldn't afford anymore.

Mark,

I noticed that Cash for Klunkers deal on Sig's website, but since I wouldn't take $200 for any weapon I currently own, it's not for me.

Prokop,

I've actually very little personal experience with automatics. I used to have a little .22 auto and I shot the S&W automatic when I took the FBI pistol course. Otherwise, only a few shots from friends' automatics many many years ago.

Bird,
My thoughts are the very same for all of my firearms. They are all worth far more to me for various reasons then a mere $200.00, but it was worth mentioning to you just on the off chance.

I understand, a man wants what he wants. Try topgunsupply.com. They have a darn nice P226 "NAVY" model for a good price. The biggest difference besides the engraved anchor on the "NAVY" model is the phosphated internals for superior corrosion resistance. It also comes with 3 phosphated magazines for $799.95. I have ordered MANY times from Tom and I have always been nothing less than 100% satisfied. Here is a link to the P226 NAVY at Top Gun Supply, but they have several others.

Wonder what sig will do with all the klunkers? It's not like they can give them to elementary schools as a charitable donation like used PCs.

I don't know if they can even sell them or not, or if they have to be destroyed as the Clunker Cars were. I know Dallas used to sell firearms that had been confiscated, abandoned, or turned in by resigning officers, but the theory that selling those guns in lots to dealers would allow many of them to eventually fall into the hands of criminals caused them to quit selling them and instead start running them through a metal shredder, so now some perfectly good guns are destroyed.

Well, after reading this thread, and numerous other ones on the Internet, and visiting every gun dealer within 25 miles, talking to dealers, and finally talking to an instructior at the Dallas Police Firearms Training Center, a decision was finally made.:D

I just picked up my new P229R DAK (instead of the 226). I appreciate everyone's help, and I must have changed my mind back and forth between the 226 and 229 at least half a dozen times before finally settling on the 229. I'd never heard of the DAK until I started this, and didn't really think I'd like it over the DA/SA, but the 226DAK is what the police department is now issuing, with the 229 an acceptable substitute if an officer wants to buy his own.

Ver nice, Bird, I am certain that it will serve you well.

I also have a well used P-229 DA/SA in .357 SIG and I reload both my 9mm and the .357 SIG rounds with the same bullets.

One question, apparently the P-229 DAK has no decoker, so how do you let the hammer down safely? Or is it in battery all the time and no single action possible?
